Suggestions for improvements and additions to the site.
This feature was rejected 6/19/2012: This can be done on a case-by-case basis if you ask, but the format will be a giant XML file, which is probably not what you're looking for.

I would like to be able to download my own story game off the site. I allready have a word processed version but it doesn't contain the links, pictures, etc etc. That way if the site goes boom for whatever reason, I haven't lost my story. I'm not asking to download other peoples just my own. Please?

That sounds like an okay idea, actually. I'd love to be able to download some stories, even just so I could have a couple to play offline when my stupid internet doesn't work (moving soon, so hopefully my new landlord won't have a crappy connection! :D) that way I'd actually have something to do! Hahaha.

I think a concern with this idea, though, might be abuse of the system. Like if it would somehow make it easier to steal someone's story and put it somewhere else? I don't know if this would actually be possible if you could download it, but its what I'd be worried about.

But yea, otherwise I like the idea.

Idk, stealing a person's story is already possible as far as I am concerned, what with copy and paste or just rewriting the entire thing. And since you are only able to download your own story, I don't see the problem. Technically, if a person were to hack into this site, they can pretty much steal any story they like even now. And with a download option for your own story, they'll still need to hack in order to get your account ID + Password, or in this case, place a couple of bots or keyloggers.

Yeah, I think this sounds like a really good idea. Only problem is, Alex has a job if you're not forgetting so by the time this thing is implemented, you would have already moved Zikara.

It would only be your own stories though. Not other peoples.

The thing with it being your own story, is you'd still have to manually set up the links and stuff again anyway, unless you also added some sort of import feature as well, where you could automatically upload the story again.

And I wasn't saying the issue I had with it was with Bradhal's idea, but was with mine.

I think this has been requested before.

I believe the response was that it was a very nice idea, but it would be a lot of work, and no one who is capable of doing it has time to do it.

Using the FWW is kinda pointless, no one ever has the time or it's too big of an idea. D:

Would that take up a lot of time to script into the website?

Still don't get why we can't get advertisements. Even if we get paid a really small amount, it would still help. Then say after a month or 2 we could pay somebody to do it.

A) It's not cheap to pay a programmer. Last time we put on advertisements, Alex made legitimately 1-2$ per month. You can't pay a programmer with pocket change.

B) Just because you're a programmer does not mean you can just start working on the site. There are two major obstacles here:

i) He'd need access to Alex's source code. If I were Alex, I probably wouldn't be super quick to just give out the source code to a project I'd worked on for years to some random person.

ii) He'd need to be able to decipher Alex's source code. This is an ongoing project that's transformed from pre .net to post .net and according to Alex, the code is really hectic. It's very possible that a programmer coming in fresh wouldn't actually know how to add anything to the site without hours of tutelage from Alex, which defeats the purpose in the first place.

Yea, we don't have nearly enough of a user base to make advertisements worth it on this site. Unless it some how continues on the trend its been going at.
