I have seen the term "RP" mentioned so many times but am unclear as to the meaning of it.

Roleplay is more like when you and a bunch of other writers come together with your own character/s to create or recreate a story. Think of it as interactive story-writing.
Well, yes. You usually play as the character you created. You could say that you play their role. Hence the name, role play.

Kinda. It's the same sort of idea as that, however it's done on a public forum usually (in this case, the Forum Games), and there's often unique approaches or ideas to make the process swift and innovative.
