hi, I'm excited to be part of this site, and while I do intend to write some of my own games, I would like to read a few stories first. Any reading recommendations you may have would be highly appreciated (my favorite genres are fantasy, horror, and historical fiction).

Hey, welcome to the site!

Browsing the stories before jumping into your own project is usually what we recommend in fact, so you're off to a good start.

And really just check the main storygame page under whatever genre you're in the mood for. Everything featured there is pretty highly rated by the community.

Any ratings or comments you leave, even brief ones would be welcomed by the authors too. Branching stories can be a lot of work to write and that's the only indication they have that somebody's out there reading them. (Criticism is welcome as well as compliments. Lots of authors are trying to improve, and it sharpens up the reader too to be able to read critically and articulate their thoughts.)

Thanks for the help! Even if I do not wright something right away, I'll make sure to rate and leave a comment on any game I read.

Hey Rozlynn,
Good to see you make the newbie post!

Horror: Warden, Monster, Reborn. They are 3 stories by author Sherbet that are all interlinked and connected. They are very scary and well written, especially reborn. Read it in that order.

Historical Fiction: Price of Freedom. Duke of Agincourt is another historical gem by Milton. 1066: Hastings.

Fantasy - Innkeeper and Rogues are really good. They are connected as well

Welcome! Check out the featured and commended stories in each category, those are usually a good place to start. Also, if you want to read a few horror short stories, you could look at this thread
