Ouch, what's a way to gain points without having to join a contest or create a story then? I'm kinda' low on points now, well i don't have anymo.
You could also enter a 3J-hosted contest. He holds all kinds of them: scavenger hunts, writing competitions, rock paper scissor championships, etc. He normally uses points as a reward, and I think ugilick got a trophy out of the scavenger hunt.
