Dust off a seat and discuss a good book here...you do read, right?

Historical Fiction recommendations

yesterday
I have an English assignment that requires me to read a Historical Fiction novel, and most of the listed ones were the me vs the world or group vs the world type things and I don’t really care for that. I’m tempted to just re-read 1984 and have an easy assignment, but I wanted to see if I could get any recommendations.

Read the red badge of courage. It’s a great civil war novel.

Also, I’d recommend the things they carried by Tim o Brien for a great Vietnam war novel.

You were here first, and I’m running out of time to pick, so I’m getting The Things They Carried. I would be open to buying others if people have more suggestions.

I would recommend the Sackett series by Louis L’Amour. There are many books in the series, starting with the colonization of new england and eventually going into the wild west. The themes of family, adventure, and the rapid expansion of civilization in wild places are amazing. The first book chronologically is called Sackett's land, but you could also start the series at The Daybreakers if you want to skip from colonial to western.

Killer Angels by Michael Shaara is another good civil war novel.
