Dust off a seat and discuss a good book here...you do read, right?

The Classic Narnia Series

It's a series that's very old. I didn't really like it, though. It was boring for me.

I agree, I didn't really like the series. C.S. Lewis is just not a very goot writer. The characters are two dimentional cardboard cutouts that I didn't connect with. I don't know why many people consider C.S Lewis to be J.R. Tolkein's equal.

the reason for the connection with tolkien is simply cause they were good friends. they were very close. as for the stories of cs lewis, i cant say ive read many stories, but his books on theology are pretty hard to read so i can only imagine the stories...

Actually, C.S.'s preoccupation with religion sort of drove J.R.R. away from him.

i never heard that... where did you hear that? just wondering.

Can't quote specific sources, unfortunately. Read it somewhere, many places. They were still friends, but while they were both Christian, JRR wanted Lewis, if he was to convert to Christianity, to become trinitarian, and Lewis wouldn't. Also, Tolkien told Lewis that he had no business writing theological articles and such as he wasn't a trained theologian. Lewis said something like, "Well, if no one else will, I'm going to." So they had massive disagreements over that.

Still, it didn't cause some terrible schism or anything. Just interesting, especially when you look at the Narnia books and realize they were about Christ and the Devil. Some people still don't know that, which amuses me.

yep, very few people get the Narnia -Christ connection. kinda sad really. not that im preaching or anything, just that its pretty obvious lol. oh well. i never heard of that quarrel though. however, it wouldnt surprise me. those kinds of differences in the christian faith have split many a people.

hahahh I loved the books!!!  You know that there is a third level that you realise from narnia.  Its hard to explain but to put it this way.

First you get the basic characters and the adventure which is kinda lame.

Then you realise that its linked to Christainity which for me is also kinda lame.

After that you get the spiritual side which is amazing.  Nearly everything in the book has an ocult meaning.  I might just be imagining it i guess but i truly believe there is another layer.

i guess that just goes to show that you can get anything out of a story that you chose to. and that the author doesnt always have the final say as to what that is.

Amazing, I never knew about the Christian and Devil in the story. I just read it.

think about it. the boy that betrays the other kids, edward or something, is like Judas.

lion- Christ

Witch- satan

the other kids- christians

the other woods creatures- non christians who dont know the truth.

its pretty deep.

You can see some religious parallells in LOTR too, although not quite as pronounced as in Narnia.

Notice in the first of the seven chronicles, it says lollies were way cheaper back when your grandparents were children. Now just think, that story was written back when you could get a bag of lollies for 1 or 2 cents. I wouldn't mind spending a dollar back in the late 1800s.
