Dust off a seat and discuss a good book here...you do read, right?

Unfinished Tales (Tolkien)

Has anyone finished the Unfinished Tales? I read the Similarion, reading a chapter a night due to how boring I found it to be, and didn't even consider reading The Unfinished Tales.

But, since I've noticed that many of us appear to be Tolkien fans, I'm wondering if anyone managed to read through it.

I started it...

Tolkien revolutionized the fantasy story business, but he isn't a master of thrills.
His works are incredible literary feats none the less.

I almost blacked out from the Silmarilion. You have to realize he was really into linguistics and what many would consider "boring." I never read "Unfinished Tales." I suspect I would be disappointed, unsure. I will check it out.

They are amazing. I have read them three times now lol

I will though admit I love the language and histories of middle earth so very much enjoyed the Silmarilion. Some of the unfinished tales move very quickly while others more slowly but I'd say they are worth persevering for if you find it hard going as some of them can put a different light on things in his other works, Things like more info on the wizards and Rohan at its founding etc.

I'm part way through the extended histories of middle earth, if you found the silmarillion hard don't read those as they might kill you, amazing to read though.
