Why would you be a good chat moderator?

Current mods/admins of the site get it if they express they want it.



Site rank (The Ranking System) determines overall permissions on the chat server (this adds incentive to gain points on the site). Everyone can do basic stuff like chat and use voice etc. Permissions to do extra things like change nicknames and manage things on the server increase with rank to the point where masters/grandmasters are practically mods/admins.

We also need a chat server icon...right now I just have it set to the classic "cream" color we're all so used to around here. Any suggestions for the server "avatar"/icon should be put in this thread.

I think it'd be pretty chill if only for a while. Might die off someday but I say we should give it a shot at least for now.

I'll be setting up an embeded version to have on profiles so there won't be a need to use the discord app - for now, the built-in voice chat widget will due; which you can find an example of [here]

I'd be a terrible chat moderator. No way I'd be able to remain impersonal, given how easily offended I am, and my reputation for white-knighting. Only a fucking tool would make me a mod.

I don't really think of you as a white knight, was this the old Malk? I heard the old Malk was good for a lol sometimes.

New cynical Malk is a whole lot better.

Just signed up. So, discord is just a home away from home?

I predict a 30% chance of it turning into "Hey Ford, can you make Chanbot do this?" after I get some other things fixed up first. 50% chance of it becoming "Hey the site is down *chatter about other stuff and writing*" (in this case it would be home away from home). 20% chance nobody uses it and it stays pretty inactive for the most part.

Is it worth getting Discord if I don't currently have a mic. Been using FB messenger and Steam chat for my DMs.

not many people use discord's voice chat function. it's worth getting as a lightweight IRC client - and it's far supirior to skype, teamspeak, mumble, etc. the slogan is "chat for gamers" or something so it's quite well integrated for steam. Not sure of it's full capabilities in that respect though.

You have to invite your friends though to chat to them on it? Might just stick to steam chat and fb for that haha.
