So I was fotzing around today on Google trying to find the language lesson I gave MadBrad just to make sure I wasn't rewriting the rules of Penguinite wrong. Instead, when I googled "The King of Us" a thing that I remember saying in that post, I found this crazy badass. It was just really amazing how everyone treated him so nicely. A feel-good Wikipedia article, if that was ever a thing.

Anyone else stumble on some especially noteworthy articles/lists during their time on the DIAS?

Chowhall shared the entire Wiki article on the Roman Empire in one of my threads...

Those were the Byzantines. C'non, man, at that point "Rome" was one half Latin-Speaking East Europe and the other half was Catholic Germany.

The Byzantine empire was East Europe, btw.

That article is amazing. Read the whole thing, the guy is a badass.

Speaking of wikipedia, IIRC there was an xkcd about how you can go to any wikipedia article and click on the first link that isn't pronunciation and eventually you'll end up at the wikipedia page for Philosophy every time. Tried it; works.

Also, the plot summary for that Daredevil movie everyone keeps advertising is  particularly interesting.

I was always told Wikipedia can't be trusted so I hardly ever use it XD

If it's political or a celebrity (especially, but not limited to, third world countries) then it's probably not trustworthy. everything else? pretty solid facts.

Their moderation is much better now. You can trust pretty much everything that's cited. I've only ever found "Factually Problematic" things when the article is brand new, hardly ever editted by any except one guy, or a broad historical/scientific subject  and the last edits have been made around the same date as a particularly large trivia competition. Check sources for sketchiness if you're really not sure. Teachers just find it objectionable most of the time because it's the easy way to finish your projects, and that means they need to make and grade more homework to keep you busy.

Just because something isn't trustworthy doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. If people only worked with the things that they trust, humanity would not have progresses to where it is now. A heap of stuff out there today is self-published, and even with texts that are actually published and edited by others, there's always inherent bias that makes it unobjective and 'untrustworthy'. As long as you're aware of this, there are ways around it (sizing it up to other sources, alternative arguments, etc).

I've just heard all about the stories about teachers who go in a change the information on a project they give to students, so I'm worried one of my teachers will do something like that lol.

That's why your teachers tell you to crosscheck your sources! ^_^
