Amusingly it was Steve and Malk's story that partially caused all the AI Dungeon outrage due to their child predator torture vampire. (I'll take credit for all the other stuff)

Nick really should've read all the stories before ripping them off to create his AI.

Actually no, it was funnier how it played out anyway. Lol

AI dungeon scraped its data from here? That's pretty awesome. But yeah it explains some things going on in AI dungeon.

Oh it was a shitstorm for Nick and his brother.

Everyone was more or less fine with it at first, but then people started asking if they could have a little less rape, incest and child murder popping up. Now granted you can take all the top stories that were scraped on here and most of those topics really are still far from the majority here, but as we all know AI just seems to laser beam focus on the worst elements of what it's being trained on. (Or best depending on your view point) Especially when it's poorly trained in the first place.

The main issue was the Walton brothers were sort of in trouble with their chat gpt masters since they didn't want to be associated with all the dark subject matter. This was supposed be a family show I guess. I'm sure Joseph Smith was looking down in disapproval. (Yep, unsurprisingly the brothers were Mormons)

Nick's brother was the more puritanical of the two and tried to implement a censor in the AI which worked even worse than intended. Couldn't go one command in without the AI stopping you from proceeding due to it interpreting things as going against the programming.

So then they both blamed the users for AI Dungeon fucking up and being edgelord incarnate. As you might expect nobody was happy with that accusation, though to be fair, most of their users WERE using it for degeneracy anyway since that's exactly what the later competitor Novel AI was mainly used for. They just didn't like being accused of it, plus it really was the brothers' big fuck up from the beginning.

In any case some document came out showing excerpts of various stories here of what Nick used. Naturally the examples were all the most darkest shit on here and of course most of it was from my stories which made it look like I was writing nothing but  torture porn stories, when in reality I write regular stories that just have a couple of pages of torture porn in them.

So they had to do a lot of backpedaling, apologizing and hiring a spin doctor to help them out. From what I know they had to recreate a new AI Dungeon from scratch to pull all the CYS stuff out of it, but of course now that means it just sucks even more. I don't think they really recovered since Novel AI sort of gained more popularity.

But that's what happens when you carelessly play around with old dark tomes of forbidden knowledge.

Anyway if you google search old reddit threads about AI Dungeon and CYS, you'll find various bits of discussion of that drama.

I wonder if there is a another reason AI Dungeon adventures typically turned pretty dark. It seems as human authors or pen and paper DMs a lot of thought goes into avoiding some pointless evil. I mean, intentional dark gritty scenes that are well set up can be great fun, but callous accidental shit sucks.

People love high stakes, so violent conflict in games seems like a good idea. One side kills the other and then you can tell yourself the others were evil and deserved it or maybe you do the guilt and redemption, both can be fun. But what it the conflict isn't resolved so easily. What if an enemy surrenders or is otherwise captured? While exploring a dungeon you logically can't just let them go. They could pose a real risk if you take them along. In pen and paper it is normally not a problem, because the Master and players usually work together to make brighter outcomes possible.

AI dungeon seems to have understood that the dark scenes are climaxes in your games, but it throws them in casually without going through the proper setup. Also it seems to regularly seems to throw prisoners at the player without having a plan where they could get out of the way again gracefully. This puts the load on the player to 'fix' the story. So I can't blame people who resort to murdering them.

Never mind the dark shit, there's also a lot of shit shit here. That explains some things about AI Dungeon for sure.

End actually skipped one of the funniest parts: so yes, the demented fetishes being generated were mostly intentional, site material being blamed was actually hilarious when you would go look through the scenarios users were uploading and what the people really wanted was to be vored by slime girls.

But AIDs was sending all this unencrypted back to Utah with emails attached and everything, and one of the early ways the brothers decided on for handling "the problem" was to have their fellow Mormons read through everybody's depraved fantasies whenever accounts would get flagged for keywords.

But yeah, a certain subset of pearl clutching AIDs users got really upset at how Count Grey from Blooded kept popping up to kill kids. Malk had a very restrained and respectful disagreement with a Mormon user on an AID server where he tried to clarify that the story actually did not contain any of the things they were insisting on, which caused them to melt down in such a rabid way they got kicked by the owner and rush over to the site to screech about Malk being a child predator in the comments section. (I think there's one comment still there for comedy, we deleted the rest as spam.)

Count Gray isn't even Malk's character, that whole section was written by Steve.

TL;DR: Two Mormons ripped us off in an effort to give people AIDS, but the joke was on them since they got SUPER AIDS in the process of giving everyone else AIDS.

Meanwhile since we were immune to AIDS, we got to have a good laugh about everyone else getting mad and triggered about AIDS.

CYS wins again.
