Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

My god, people, the last four stories I read in Edutainment were all beautifully written! I've read a LOT of stories on this site, and only a handful are as well written: great grammar, punctuation, description, syntax, spelling, dialogue.

Still, none of them are my favorites, since I like more complexity. That's my own bias, though.

I just found it refreshing as hell to see good ideas AND great writing at the same time, three to four times in a row from unrelated writers. This is not, by any means, a criticism of all the other great writers we have here! I love so many stories like Magus, Triple J's Star Wars, and nearly a dozen more. Sometimes it just gets frustrating when I read a story and wish the author would have proofread it a bit more before publishing.

Such an act can make a good story great.

The writing is better than almost every story on the site on most of them. It's amazing.

He's canadian, I think they call it the war for independence, not the revolutionary war, don't you triple J?

For the longest time, the Edutainment Storygames were our greatest asset -- and, as you described, well written and fun.  Back when the site was getting off the ground, we figured Content First, Users later, and payed a bunch of the Google Answers folks (mostly professional researchers/writers/etc) to make them. Fortunately, it seems that the writing/content is finally starting to catch up to these.

So why did we commission edutainment? It's chocobot's favorite category and was the only request that seemed to get a response on google answers (researchers, you know). Choco is sad to see that no one else seems to like the category.

Another thing to note, Edutainment will eventualy go away. Wehn we implement TAGS (see the FWW), an "educational"  tag will be added. Both choco and I feel this will encourage more authors to include educational content in something SciFi (science related), Fantasy (mythology related), etc.

What if Sci-Fi becomes the biggest asset? Or Fantasy? Or even EVERYTHING ELSE?! We might as well have categories, just so we know what the games are about.

Categories are Genres. A story can exist in only one genre.

Tags are Attributes, which a story can have many of.

Edutainment games

hmm ok.  But why then not have multiple genres? A game using time travel could be sci/fi modern adv and fantasy no?

Edutainment games

True, and what about Fantasy games that are also edutainment?

Edutainment games

Precisely, like educational-ness with a twisrt.

This is why Edutainment will go away and be replaced with an Educational tag. This way Fantasy stories could be marked as Educational.

Try again -- Time Travel is a Science Fiction concept.

The lines do occasionaly become blured, but for the most part, it's very clear what category a story falls in.

oh no not at all Alex.  What about if a fire magician made an inferno that was to breach time sending himself into the pesent.  Half teh agame could be fantasy (he could lvive out his life first) and then become modern.  As well as having a sci/fi twist no?

No no -- see that would be Fantasy then.

Think about it ... if you brought this main character from "Fantasy Era" to the Present Day or even to the "SciFi Future", this character would be confused and not understand Cars, Skyscrapers, Baseball Caps, Spaceships, etc., and so on. So, as an author, you would have to tell the story from his "Fantasy Era" perspective.
