Yes, you're a slave, but don't be immediately discouraged. If you use your opportunities wisely, you'll be more than a slave when you're done. Battle everything from wolves to sorcerers in your quest through the Nautilus feudal system, or underground resistance, or perhaps somewhere in between.
The story will branch off immediately into several different directions, but will allow you to revert to different paths and interact with several figures in different manners. Play as a charismatic leader, or a murderous psychopath to make your way up the ladder, but it won't be easy.
Don't be fooled by the Advanced settings, no items are included in this game as of now, but variables will influence your path greatly.
