Obligation: A pseudo-forum CYOA?

Hello again! I was working off and on on my first traditional post-apocalyptic CYOA and grew bored with only having myself to write with. I get impatient very easily and can't stand a stagnant story, who doesn't? So, I thought what if I could write pages of plots and player choices that open to forums and then back to the main story? That means way more flexibility on my part, but also makes for an exciting action-packed MMO-type storygame that won't just be me the creator and you the player, sometimes it will be you the player with other players, sometimes just me, and sometimes mostly you. Get what I'm throwing down?

I'm still relatively new and haven't read many of the forum stories, but I hope this sounds like a good idea to enough people that we can get at least 5 people to play. That way the PvP aspect isn't stretched too thin. The story starts here. Coauthors, players, and general advice welcomed wholeheartedly ~

*begins processing whether or not that's possible*

Would it technically work: Yeah, interesting idea

Would it practically work: Nope, people don't follow rules and chaos would ensue - as well as being extremely annoying that I'd have to click a link to a forum post instead of just staying in the storygame window.

It's one of those things that works in theory but it'd never work in practice ever. So it's probably a bad idea to be a bit blunt.

Thanks for your feedback. It's always helpful to get advice from those more experienced in CYOA than I. :) I see what you're saying, forums = chaos and that you would need a dedicated lot of people who actually do follow rules, which is highly unlikely. However, if there is a dedicated group of players out there who would follow rules would it then be possible? If I limited posts per forum event, or RLT, like many literary RPs do, would this perhaps make it more manageable? :/ [brainstorming to the max]

Thing is there is no limit to forum posts or who can post in a thread, so if someone played the game a year after it died out, the thread would be necro'd again and again by noobs who don't know any better. If there was a way to lock a thread after a certain time or to white list certain people to post in a thread, then perhaps it'd work - but there simply isn't a practical way of implementing a forum thread into a storygame and vise versa.
