I'm writing a story that tells about a boy and girl, both how they met when they were 8, and what they do when they're both 17. They're not twins, just really, really, really good friends, if you know what I mean. It's supposed to tell a sad story that is happy at hte same time. I need some scenes, and they're modern scenes, too. I could use some for both ages, some sad, some happy, others neutral and add on to the story. Go ahead, let the ideas flow.

Maybe something here will inspire you.

'Letting the ideas flow' and coming up with things for their characters to do is usually the job of the author, not the readers, just fyi.

I'm looking for IDEAS from the good writers.

Coming up with ideas is still the writer's job and the only way a writer can improve. My first story was about elemental werewolves and I was eight years old when I wrote it.

If you REALLY want ideas from other writers, you have collaborate with them and give them credit where it's due.

If you don't know how to write something without going out and writing the damn thing, chances are, you're not ready, as a writer, to write that kind of thing. You seem to be intent on doing this, though, so the only advice anyone can really give you is "Git gud, skrub". Nobody's going to give you good ideas they could easily incorporate into their own works. You need to write emotional stories until you're better at writing emotional stories. Get some real life experience, maybe, watch emotional movies, read emotional books, focus on why and how they make you feel emotional, and make your own thing using those techniques you learned. If you honestly can't come up with ideas for shit, you shouldn't be writing. If you can, then just write your shit and submit it to a crowd that can critique your story. Everybody was once shit at the things they're good at now, and now's your time to be shit. Keep at it, and maybe it won't be shit. You can always reboot an idea to be much better later on.

More importantly, though, write your own damn shit. An author without ideas is a car without gasoline, and you can only get so far on gas money some passerby hands you.

"...you can only get so far on gas money some passerby hands you."

I once knew a guy who was proud of the fact that he traveled from south TX to central OK, bumming gas door-to-door from farm houses and didn't have to spend a dime.

But, back to topic:  I think the best way to get ideas on this subject is to just live life and draw from personal experience.  Either that or stalk couples in the park and document their every move (which can be a bit dangerous).

You say dangerous, I say entertaining sit-com scenario, complete with chase scene set to Benny Hill.

Surely something here might help you to get your creative juices flowing.

Sounds like a story where the two meet up and realise that they've both changed and grown up to some extent. Where you'll go from here, you gotta decide. What experiences have they experienced since they were 8? How have they changed?

Thanks for the help. Normally people give me crap about asking for ideas, but your nice and really helpful. Thanks a lot!

Oh don't be mistaken. It is up to you, the author, to decide what scenes to write up in order to show what I said. I simply provided a refresher/prompt for you to expand on :)

It's just that I didn't think of that. Thanks!

After a maverick youth uses extortion to obtain a museum of oddities they are pursued by a party of scientists.

When they discover their parents are having an affair, the two go on a sea voyage. The plot is extended by an investigation.

After a warm-hearted funeral director inherits a rundown orphanage they are pursued by a group of mercenaries.

When a gull flies off with their cell-phone, a boat load of Vikings sell a box of minature monsters. The situation is complicated by the real perpetrator.

After a belligerent funeral director accidentally picks up a chocolate factory they are pursued by a convent of nuns. Events are encumbered by an opportunity.
