Introduction: Three Questions

So, you're ready to take on the Advanced Editor? Well, here's a quick article about the Link or Variable Restrictions that can be accessed with the little red stop sign next to a link. The Three Questions answered are:

1. How do I make it so when you choose a certain link you can't choose it again?

2. How do I make it so the player ends up on a certain page after clicking three links?

3. How do I make a certain ending appear for a certain score?

1. How do I make it so when you choose a certain link, you can't choose it again?

1. Go to Story Properties and go to the bottom. Click on the link that says [change editor features] .

2. Change Variables to advanced.

3. Make 3 links on the page you want.

4. Go to the little red stop sign next to one of the links and make sure you're on the page that says Link Restrictions in the pop-up window.

5. Above the button to save and close there should be some text saying Maximum number of uses and you click the drop down arrow and click number 1. Do that to all the links.

6. Now they won't be able to choose it again if they go back to that page.

2. How do I make it so the player ends up on a certain page after clicking all three links?

1. Do what was described in the previous question.

2. Go to Variables on the top bar which should look something like this:

Advanced Editor > Properties

Go To: Storygame PropertiesItemsVariablesChapters & Pages / Save & Exit

3. Make a new variable. Mine is titled DAYSPEND for this situation.

4. Go to the plus sign ( ) on one of the links.

5. Go to the drop down box next to DAYSPEND and put addition and in the box next to it, put 1. Do this for all the links.

6. Now, click on one of the 3 links and it will take you to the new page. Make a link going to the first page by clicking on  . Do that to all 3 links.

7. Go back to the page with the three links and make a fourth one, don't make it visible while it's inactive (so don't click the checkbox in Link Restrictions)

8. Go to Variable Restrictions and in the drop down box next to DAYSPEND put = , in the box next to that put 3.

9. Now, when the player goes through all three links, the fourth one will appear, continuing the story.

3. How do I make a certain ending appear for a certain score?

This is how I was taught

1. You would have had to add to the variable SCORE. You do this by going to the plus sign ( ) and adding however much you want to SCORE.

2. Make all paths go to a certain page. Then, make three links on that page, but don't let them be visible while inactive.

3. For the first link, this can be a happy ending. You go to the stop sign and go to Variable Restrictions.

4. Click the drop down box next to SCORE and put > and then in the box next to it, put a score, like, 600. So, if the score is greater than 600 (601 or higher) then they get the happy ending.

5. For the next link, go to Variable Restrictions and go to SCORE, but this time put < instead. Next to it put 500 in the box. So, if the score is less than 500 (499 or less) then they get the sad ending.

6. For the final link, go to Variable Restrictions and in SCORE put Between and the box next to it will turn into two boxes. In the first box put 500 and the second put 600. Now if the SCORE is between 500 and 600 then they get the okay ending.

Conclusion

So now you know how to do these simple actions with the two restrictions. The featured story Snow used a couple of these techniques, so you know they can be useful. I hope you can use this to make your story even better for our website!
