Based Off A True Story

(I keep finding bugs, so this will be on and off published as I edit things :) )

I decided it would be fun to make my dad another storygame for father's day...5 years after the first one I made for him. Love you dad, happy father's day!

EDIT (4 years later): The sheer amount of family lore concerning this game is immense. It was a game that I started to make about 4 years ago for father's day, wrote about 1 "Dad Trial" of, and then promptly dropped. Every father's day and birthday since, the fact that my father has never seen the game and the fact that I never bothered to finish it has been a running joke in the family. Because he means so much to be and because I think it's really funny, I decided to finally finish the game for him for his 50th birthday. It's a thematic mess, with too much meta humor and distinctly different writing styles depending on what age I was when I wrote each section, and I hope you thoroughly enjoy it, dad.

I'm not going to lie. I entered this game fully prepared to mock it based on the title. I'm a jerk that way, but I definitely don't intend to do that now. It was a bit silly, but intention so. I have to say that I actually had fun playing this game. I would recommend that anyone looking for a wholesome, fun little story play this.

First, to get the possible criticisms out of the way. It is a bit linear with one winning ending and really only one path to get there. I didn't mind that too much, especially as I consider spinning so fast that I become one with the universe to be a win. There were also a few very minor spelling issues, likely just typos. The only one I still remember was a missing "s" on a verb somewhere.

The strength of this story, I think, is the fact that it feels genuine throughout. Overall, stories on this site tend to get a little pretentious, and this was honestly a bit of fresh air. Even the little fourth wall breaking joke in the middle was fun. I actually chuckled at the whole "you can swear now" bit. Also, while there were several Death endings, the story kept its lighthearted, wholesome tone throughout.

All in all, the story was great. It was just the right length to stay funny and light without dragging itself out. You handled coming back to a story you wrote three years ago remarkably well (I could never). And you incorporated enough emotion and personality to really give this story some life. While I will still inundate my heart with dark, tragic stories, there is certainly a need for these too.

This was fairly well written with an original premise and obviously a lot of love and humour for the source material. As this is a bit of a novelty story it is obviously personal to the writer and therefore a bit outside mainstream analysis but for what it's worth I thought it was very good and a very nice thing to write :D

I really enjoyed playing this game! Not only the idea is super cute, but the writing is also really good (loved the humour and references in it!) and the story original and refreshing. 100% worth the time :)

Gwen (if Gwen was the one who wrote it), this is the most wholesome thing I've read in a while.

I don't even really know whether if it's appropriate to properly review it or not as this story feels very personal, but I'm sure that your dad will like it (if he hasn't read it already.)

The ending too gave me a few tears. It's so sweet.
