This feature was rejected 6/3/2014: good idea, but not focusing on advanced editor things at the moment

Item effects

As all advanced story makers know... "An "Item Effect" describes what page to go to if the item is used on a given page."

But, I was just thinking... it'd be cool if using an item had a + or - variable value effect option under there. For the sake of convenience. That way, you don't have to make a new page every single time your character say, eats an apple for hunger, drinks an ether for mana, uses a bandage for health, or opens a cartrige for ammo. I know, I know, you can add / subtract with links, but I still think it'd be a nice feature.

I agree that this is a good suggestion.

However, try this for now:

For example, lets say you have a banana which gives health.

Set the banana to always take the player to one page (call that page, eat banana or something).
On that page, have only one link which is a previous page link. On that link add an item drop so the banana gets dropped and also add a health increase. If they can accrue multiple bananas, make sure the link has count multiple checked.

OR, you can do it more cleanly with scripting.

This is the feature wishing well... threads aren't meant to die here.

True, and some of them sit for quite awhile, before they can even be evaluated by the right people.

Yeah, in the meantime, that is what I'm doing... that's how the idea came to mind. It just seems tedius and I don't necessarily mean for the writers, I mean for the reader. Maybe, at times, you want the effect of stopping to consider the item you're using and maybe make them figure out what it's for, or what to use it with, and that's fine...

But like I said, with stuff like a fighting game... xD you don't have to figure out shotgun ammo if you've got a freaking shotgun, you just want to use it. That said, of course I feel it'd be much more convenient for the writer. (I'm, uh... not that great at scripting.)

You should learn to script :).

Oh, I never said I didn't know how to do any scripting, I only said I'm not that great at it... yet.
