Storygame Sticker Album

I think it would be really cool if the "My Stuff" section of every account had a Storygame Stickers area. Storygame Stickers can be defined as proof that you completed a storygame. Proof could be getting a secret ending, a high score, or even just getting to the end of the story.

Essentially, this would work just like the Rock, Paper, Scissors game on this website.

Possible Implementation:
1. In the Storygame Properties Window, there will be a check box that says "Does Storygame include a Profile Sticker?"
2. If the user checks the box, an "Image Selection" button will come up and let the user choose from the list of images that they have already uploaded to the site.
2.1 A drop down list containing all the pages in the story will come up. This is where the sticker will appear in the story. (That way, if the storygame creator makes a game with a "bad ending", then the game won't give the sticker to that player.) By default, the sticker will appear as its own page before the End Game and Leave Comments page.
3. When the user plays the storygame and come across the sticker, clicking on the sticker or a link will "add it" to your album.
4. If the user goes to their profile, they can click on a link "Sticker Album". Only the stickers that you received will appear. If you got the sticker for that story, the sticker will be shown.
5. When another user wants to see their friend's sticker album, they can click on that user's album and compare them with their own.

Benefits of a Sticker Album:
+This would clear up space on the user profile section for those that have lots of stickers already.
+Gives the user a sense of an achievement system for completing a storygame.
+Adds another social feature that users can talk about.

Negatives of a Sticker Album:
-Loading times for stickers could take a while, especially if user has a lot. (Can be fixed through only showing completed stickers)
-Stickers aren't necessarily used as much. (This would solve the above problem. If a person doesn't know how a sticker works, they won't upload one.)

Overall, I think a Storygame Sticker Album would be a great opportunity to give users a sense of achievement for completing storygames on this site. It won't replace points or the rock, paper, scissors games. It's just another layer of feeling like you have contributed to the community.

You're suggesting an amped up version of "profile badges" like the ones Briar and I have offered readers at the end of specific games / game paths.

Well, I like the idea, I'll say that--if I didn't, I would never have tried to make a crude version of this possible. It sounds difficult to implement, but I know that "achievements" are a huge plus for a lot of completionists, which is one of the core personality types of gamer culture. It's why so many, many gaming sites and consoles have things like that. (For the playstation crowd, as an example, it's trophies...) The idea of it being a "sticker album" is also kind of cute, I guess.

I suppose it depends on the degree of difficulty in implementation, the value that the admins see in this concept, and Alexp's willingness to create this system. GL.

Other Negatives

-Asshole writers like me can and will create stickers that teasingly shame players for making certain choices, like the 'Bestiality' achievement in Hunie Pop.

-Long games with lots of stickers may become more about the stickers than the story.

-Noobs will make "sticker hunt" games with loads of stickers just to get images they like.

I think the latter two could be easily fixed by making it so only games that get out of the New Storygames section have stickers that count, but that just adds another layer of difficulty. I don't really know how to stop the first one, short of adding rules and guidelines about stickers, but I don't think that's really a negative if it's hilarious enough.

You make some very good points on the negative end of the Storygame Sticker Album. The fact that writers can be trolls and shame players and such would be a very frustrating process to go through and moderate.

I do have a solution to solve this problem:

+ 1 Sticker per Storygame. That way you either get the sticker for completing the story, or you don't. The writer specifies what page the sticker is on.

+ Stickers that are deemed appropriate will be reported and the story will be unpublished until the user removes the sticker.

1 sticker per storygame would downgrade the use and flexibility of stickers considerably. The ability to report stickers and remove the ones you don't like from your album would get rid of the risk and keep the majority of the benefits, especially since it's optional to pick up stickers anyway.

- I don't think this feature would be used often.
- It's a pretty big feature to implement given how many different places would need to be changed.

At the end of the day I think it'd just be a "Neat" feature, and wouldn't add much to the site.

What about the code that's used for giving out trophies?

Instead of having an separate "album" page, maybe we can just have it be on the profile page below the trophies. Instead of user designed stickers, it can be a general template. If you move your mouse over it, a hover text could display which story you earned it for.

That way you're not re-inventing the wheel and you can use similar code that was already implemented.

That's a great idea for an implementation.

I still don't think it's worth the effort, but at the very least that should make it easy to implement should Alex decide to do so.

So for quiz game and ect. would the amount of points you have convert into a chosen sticker? And also to stop sticker hunters you could just have a sticker per epilogue.

Negatives. Oh yeah now I am in this convo. now!

Awful writers like I could be like this....

You died again.... You get the WHY THE DOLPHIN sticker

or

You saved Tonya.... You get the DEAD DUCK sticker. Why did you let the Duck die?!?

Only kidding, but I do see a lot of wrong and right to this. Lets see how it goes.
