Ability to lock threads

It would be like your notifications, if inactive for a long time, they would be automatically deleted. I would say that 3 or 4 months would be long enough.

This way there would be WAY LESS Necroing of "dead threads."

Who cares about old threads being necro'd anyway? It's a non-issue.

I mean this is just something minor, but I think it is annoying when someone necros a thread, especially if they are trolling.

Alex has more important things to do. Just un-follow the thread. It takes a second or two of your time.

Oh, Ok, Well, if that is what I have to do, hopefully one day Alex will have more time on this site. If he does I will bring this back up.

I mean, the other side of this is that there are threads others like to go back and see, so deleting them is just a bad idea. Locking them after a certain period of time isn't terrible though.

Locking would be nice, yes.

I agree, it would be a much better solution than simply deleting it. So, instead of making a whole new forum I'll just rename the thread.

I usually go back and read all those amusing old threads so I disagree.

To be honest, I don't really like this proposal. In my opinion necroing threads isn't that much of a nuisance, and I like to read old threads once in a while.

This doesn't fit the FWW guidelines.

If there were an easy way to change the code of the site to allow locking threads, it seems like alexp would have done it a while ago.

But, would it have been easy to simply just put a lock button right next to the watch and threaded/non-threaded view button?

I have no idea.  There's not just, like, a magical "lock button" sitting around that can simply be placed onto the page.

Could be a cool idea though.
