In the advanced editor, is it possible to address the player by their username? Like, any script that you can use that is similar to "Oh thank you, $USERNAME."? It would help give personality to many stories. I doubt it is, since I have yet to see it in any story I've rated, but I thought I'd ask about it here just to be safe.

They're so similar color wise - I get the two confused. Want me to make you one?

yeah, please change it. It's not really nice to use anothers avatar. (on Purpose atleast.) ESPECIALLY not to just cheese off a well respected member like 3J. And unless I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure there able to change your avy to nothing.

Well when I saw his reply, his avatar looked the exact same.  Not a very funny joke, melike :P

He must have changed it before you came on. Before It was mine.

Yeah, I got that.

That would be useful, although it's not often when you use the user's name. I can see maybe in your story, and in JJJ's Magventure, but not in anything else. Still, worthy suggestion.

And nice joke, I don't know why everyone got so harky about it.

Yeah that was incredibly hilarious.. I'd be pissed if someone used my avatar w/out my permission, thats bull.

And I disagree, most stories say "you" and never give a character name for the protagonist.  In any of those stories, this could be used somehow.

Thats exactly what I was thinking of. Like at the beginninng they enter a 3-5 letter name. (Or whatever #) and when you enter, like, say, $USERNAME it shows up what name they entered at the begging.

You could do that with scripting (via Tsmpaul's password code).

But JJJ, although many stories say "you" instead of the character's name, the main character is not always the player. Putting it into context, October is not a knight, like a story with this may suggest, but it would be more suitable to say, "you are a knight", as it doesn't name anyone and generally tells us that you are playing the role of someone in the adventure. And, although this one isn't that much of an argument (so don't take it that seriously), you wouldn't find a magician called "acmpuppy" or "goosebumpsreader".

I still like the idea, though.

Well that depends on the style of the storygame.

IE:

I could create a character in zelda called DYNAMITEKID and he'd be link.  So what if DYNAMITEKID isn't a realistic kid for some fantasy elf like thing.

You've got a point there. Can't go against Legend of Zelda. I guess it's up to the author, but yeah, it does depend on the style of storygame.

Yeah, anyway October, you said something about being able to do this already with scripting? How? This might just be enough to me actually sucking it up and learning it.

Look for tsmpaul's reply in this thread.
