Can we make it so that the avatar picture is put under the stats box or the stats box is put under the avatar picture, so that we have a clean rectangle to work with and things center properly, etc.

That's the problem :P
When you center, it centers between the avatar image and the stats box. Then when the avy image ends, it centers between the left side and the stats box, making it look stupid because the "centered" part, just changes.

Either that or just make the area under the avy image just not be useable.
