I cannot beleive I'm doing this, but it's time to kick a dead horse. What if we have it set up to where the system counts the number of times the reader uses the back button, then displays it at the end next to the score?

This, I would be okay with! In fact, I think I support this idea. I really like stats in general. The only thing is, we'd have to make it clear that

back button counter DOES NOT EQUAL cheating.

For a multi pathed story, the back button is an integral component in multiple path exploration. Also, consecutive presses should only count as 1, since it's just one going back action, even though it's encompassing multiple pages.

Or we could have a checkbox next to each page in the editor, where if the author checks it, then only pressing back on the checked pages causes the counter to go up. That way, it actually would represent cheating. So, if Bradhal wanted to make a page where a hint is given, he could check that page, and if someone pressed "back" to escape that page, it would increase the count by one where it wouldn't if they used it on a different page. I like this idea, here.

I don't have any problems with this idea.

I'm a bit biased, but i like the idea myself. I especially like 3J's adapation of it, when the writer chooses when the back the BB counter counts.

i like it to

That's actually an ingenious solution to bradhal's problem, and one that would be a generally fun idea to things not even related to what Bradhal was talking about.

Plus, on some stories, it would be more of a good thing than bad, like an indicator of how much of the story you explored.

I really like this, good thinking Ugilick.

So, had we a programmer, this would be implemented? I feel successful.

Yep, but since Alpex is the only one with access to the programming. We are SOL

In the end of the day, it's Alex's decision. You won't ever see my accept any FWW posts because he's the one who decides what he wants in the site and what he doesn't so it's hard to say whether this would be implemented. Seems like the idea has the support of the community though, which helps.

Because it has been mentioned, I'm bumping this.
