How New Variables Will Work

I didn't want to continue on a TWO YEAR old thread ... so ....

Currently, the only type of variable change allowed is addition. You can of course add a negative number to create subtraction, but this is obviously limited.

When you select the Variable Change option for a link, you will be presented the following change options for each variable:  Add To, Subtract To, Multiply By, Divide By, Percent Of, Reset To, and Random

I think the + - / * % are self explanatory. Reset To will ignore whatever value the variable has and set it to whatever you put. This would be useful if you go to an inne that resets your health back to 100.

All changes except Random will be whole numbers (no decimals). Random changes will be in the form of "xDy".

For example, if you put in 3d6, this would take three six-sided dice and "roll them." You results would be anywhere from 3 to 18, with the most probably results being somewhere in the middle. 1d20 would be rolling a twenty-sided die one time, yielding 1 to 20, all with equal probability.

Couldn't you make it like this: 1d4t6 meaning 1 dice with the value 4 to 6?

Well he could, but does he want to?

It could help set a battle stat like your strenghth range.  Pretend it is 5.  Then you would want to make it 1 dice of 4 to 6.  Do you see where that would come in handy.

Understandment... (lol)  This might be my last day guys...

That makes the feature more complex and confusing ... the idea is rolling dice (and based on good ole D&D dice).

I cannot think of a scenario where you would want something that is 4,5, or 6. If you wanted low numbers like that .... 3d2 will be 3 to 6 ...

I know this is off topic but Alex have you dmed or are you a player?  Or have you just watched or what?

Both. I would still love to. The thing getting in the way is time. Can you have a D&D sesssion last any less than 4 hours?

I've put a helluva lot of time into this site, so I have no plans on getting rid of it anytime soon.

phew (wipes brow)..... P.S. have you considered my quiz catagory thing?

How New Variables Will Work

Yes. We need to ad two categories at a time, and are considering what these should be ... Quiz is definitely one of those, and i'd like to see a video one (although, right now we only have 2, but #3 is right around the corner), but there are lots of othe things we can do too, like sports, horror, etc ....

How long does it take to make one, because you could do the quiz now and the """ later.

Chocobot is our artist (altho Fear made a nice Baby graphic).

WE can't add just one category because then it would be lopsided (note how we have two on each side).

Can you please do dice like 1d5-7.  How would you reproduce that.  Not many people can think of a way.

That'd be col.

Unless you can give me a reallllllllllllllllllly good reason ... I've already started programming. Right now, I want a change to be defined by two integers. Change and Change_Modifier.  Change_Modifier is only valid on Random changes ... I'd rather not add another int to have to handle this sometimes.

I still fail to see when this would be useful.

RPG stats.  That would make it easier for them.  Decides,  I don't use more than 1 dice.  Making monopoly might be different though.  Have you though about makeing a feature where there is a waiting room for another player and they have turns playing a CYOA or they compete?

That was the only use I could ever think of. In this case, you would do this:

Create a variable called AGILITY and give it a "Starting Value" of 8. On the "Roll" page, change it with a 1d12. This would ensure AGILITY is between 12-20.

Multiplayer games are probably not going to happen in a very long time. MUDs are alreadya huge thing and cover this scene pretty well.

Not a MUD or a MMORPG.  They take turns choosing links.  You can't go back on it though.
