Greetings CYS, it's been awhile.

I wish to write about our Meowy Overlords. Has enough time passed that it's possible to write a storygame about c*** without giving everyone on the site flashbacks to their time in 'Nam?

Judging by the title, I thought this would be another "Dark Fantasy" story idea, so thank god it's not that.

As for writing about c*ts, you probably can (maybe), as long as they're not of the Warrior variety.

As far as I know, writing of the c*t has never been forbidden, as long as they're not W****** C*ts. Or as long as they're not pretending not to be W****** C*ts while using all the same lingo and arranging everyone into clans in the forest.

Now there's still members like Sentinel who fanatically despise the c*t in all its forms, and they may take a dim view no matter what, but if you're a good enough writer I'm sure you can overcome any initial wariness most readers may have.

I'm not sure about 'Meowy Overlords' though. Specifically, I can't decide if that's cute to say or if I fucking hate you now.

Why not both?

Unfortunately our time in 'Nam has scarred us all, and you will likely trigger a few flashbacks by writing of The C*t, but as long as it isn't of the forbidden W*rr**r variety or resembling it you'll technically be fine.

I am also glad this was about cats.

C*ts, sorry. Didn't mean to use bad language on this Christian site.

Good to know I'm in the clear! And don't worry, although I have certainly dabbled in fanfiction, I have little interest in it any more. (It started to feel restrictive, and readers can be vocal in their lack of appreciation when you deviate from what they expect as far as the canon goes.)

I've lurked here on an off over the years and I'm glad to officially be back. I can't even remember what my original account was and I believe it's banned anyhow, but this was the site that got me thinking of myself as a writer. I went on to impress my English teachers at the very least and I think members of the site will be able to overcome their reluctance and enjoy what I have planned, I've certainly improved in leaps and bounds over my first fledgling efforts here.

Can't sleep, so here I am with my old pal Word before me, eager to go to work.

The scene I was planning to write next gives me pause however: this being a story about cats it may attract children.

As a rookie member of an organization of freedom fighters, you're sent to meet up with a partner for a mission. This particular mission entails breaking into a hospital nursery and killing all the (human) babies there. It's done by poisoning and it's optional whether you assist with this, but this other cat, Gliada, is a possible romance partner later and the point of all this is to establish how ruthless she is.

Is this crossing any kind of line or breaking any rules? I want to make sure I don't need to adjust anything before I continue.

While protecting the children is a noble goal, the internet is ultimately a dangerous place. Just give your story an appropriate maturity rating.

If a child is entrusted by the authority figures in their life (i.e. parents) to surf the internet freely, they should be fine here. The 'scarrier' stuff can be backed out of pretty easily. If they actively seek out the higher maturity stuff, you can't really blame yourself.

In the end, execution of the scene will also determine its impact. Killing human babies obviously sounds bad, but in the story it is poisoning them. You're not taking a knife to each baby, or something more gruesome. Also, as you said, this scene is showing Gliada's ruthlessness.

Having darker elements exist with a purpose tends to make them more acceptable (but this really does depend on your goal with the story, i.e. going full shock factor doesn't have to be bad, but I'm getting side tracked).

I'll finish by mentioning that thinking about your audience can be good. You say that the story being about cats might attract children, but the question should be do you want to target your story to children?

If this is supposed to be a kids' story, you might want to change the baby poisoning to something else (but it is a judgement call, as children stories CAN have dark/disturbing elements).

However, if they aren't your target audience, I wouldn't worry about making the story more appropriate for them. You have full creative control and should be free to make use of that. Obviously, the site does have guidelines (i.e. no straight up porn, meet minimum requirements, etc), so you'll want to follow those if you want your story to stay up.

TL;DR
To answer your question, it isn't breaking any rules, but crossing a line depends on what line we're talking about. In regards to this site, the concept for that scene is perfectly acceptable.

If you're planning on targeting the story to children, then it is a judgement call on whether or not you change it. Keep in mind that children stories can have dark/disturbing elements, it is about the intent and the writing execution.

I'm intrigued by the fact this cat is a romantic option. That's a hell of a first date, AND a "how I met your mother" story....
