Branching and Stuff (I guess)

Hello, AGAIN!

I had a question about branching (I think that's the correct term), but it's quite dumb.

Is it okay for my entry for the prompt contest to have a couple pages with no options besides "Proceed to next"? Like, if I don't have an idea for an option that wouldn't make the story too big?

Once again, it's a dumb question, but I'm trying to be careful.

Thank you!

That's a good question, and yes you can have some pages with only one option.

Have branches where branches make sense is a good rule. Nobody needs artificial choices leading to quick ends or having little consequence.

Yay! Thank you!

I saw you online at the bottom and could guess you'd be the first person to answer, hehe... >:3

You know if you read more games here you wouldn't have to ask these kinds of questions smh my head.

The top two from last year's contest both had like four or five pages in a row without choices. I'd say just make it worth it to the reader.

Oh yeah, echoing what Mizal had, this one is maybe the quintessential storygame, IMHO. Read it. And notice that indeed there are places where there are no choices, as well as optional lore links.

A lot rides on story scope. You can get away with a lot more in an epic. In those, I prefer multiple single links than random pages that are CVS receipt length.

Good point. If the author is filling those pages with world and character development, it makes it worth it. If not, it makes you want to quit and read something else.
