Read immediately. My favorite book of all time. Strangely, after I ranted and raved and recommended to everyone, only 10% thought it was funny. Perhaps I'm insane. I'm telling you, though, it is fucking hilarious. Oops, the kids. Don't mail me, choco.

Sure, you can find it at any bookstore. Here's what the dust jacket says:
"At the center of it all is one Ignatius J. Reilly, an obese genius from New Orleans, a flatulent frustrated scholar deeply learned in Medieval philosophy and American junk food, a brainy mammoth misfit imprisoned in a trashy world of Greyhound Scenicruisers and Doris Day moviese. Minding his own business on Canal Street one day, Reilly gets hauled off by a cop for no worse offense than looking suspicious. The experience is so traumatic that Reilly and his long-suffering mother repair to the NIght of Joy bar, drink themselves to the fringe of oblivion, and promptly plow their old Plymouth into a building. So begins a series of hilarious misadventures that....." and it goes on.
Basically it's about this guy roaming about New Orleans, trying to get a job, uncover a conspiracy, deal with his mother and love life - all sorts of stuff.
A Confederacy of Dunces
by John Kennedy Toole
He never could get it published and killed himself in despair at 32. His mother kept sending it in and eventually it not only got published but won the Pulitzer Prize and is awesome!

It's interesting, just trust old madglee. Read to page 50. An old professor of mine said that if you don't like a book by page 50 it's not to your tastes.

Sounds good. It got me laughing at the "obese genius". I don't know why, but the words sort of rhymed with each other, and I've never really thought of them that way before.

This book is totally famous. It's like the poster child for authors who think they're geniuses (is that the plural of genius?) and no one appreciates their work.

Definitely famous but obscure. Not sure about being a poster child but I can see how that would be true in certain circumstances. Still, it's fucking hilarious.
