Spring Cleaning: Time to Update TV Tropes

It's been a while since I (or anyone else for that matter) have made any significant changes to our TV Tropes page.

I'm looking for input on:

  1. What examples should be added/removed from the main page.
  2. Whether there are any other story-games on the site that deserve their own page.
  3. Tropes and examples for said pages.

Input from anyone is welcome. Thank you all in advance.

Well, now that we have more good games from all the contests and shit, we should consider putting more up there.

LET IT BE KNOWN HERE THAT SENTINEL VOWS TO ONE DAY FINISH SOME SHIT WORTH PUTTING THERE! AND HE TOTALLY DIDN'T STOP WORKING ON IT WHEN HE STOPPED POSTING IN THE PROGRESS THREAD!... He just... Uhhh... Didn't want to get in the way of all the riddles contestants...

Wow. We have our own trope? Well, it's cool but it depicts us as nerds. Sad.

... That's a joke, right?

You're on a website about reading, writing, and scripting your interactive fictional adventures with variables. What the hell else would we be other than nerds? (:P And people who think of "nerd" as an insult are a dying breed because suggesting someone is at least fairly competent at their hobbies makes a really shitty insult.)

It's really awesome of you to do this! I'll be back with some tropes for a couple games once I'm not in the middle of lab.

Do you think we should have general tropes for the website as well? Part of me thinks it'd be amusing, the other part fears what kind of mess all the differing YMMV opinions might cause.

I'll make it nice and fat. Tropes is one of the better ways to get fresh meat, and hey, they're on a site about dissecting media, that's certainly a good start to writing good stuff.

Oh man. I want a snide Social Justice trope. And Gender Blender, and, and...

...I'm not allowed on TVTropes unless I'm "working," though. It's just such a fucking rabbit-hole for me... all puns intended, but mostly plot-bunnies. XD

The tabs. The endless tabs. @_@

I’d suggest some of Steve and Will’s stories (Like Achillies or Hunting the Ripper), but I'm guessing you'll have to PM them about giving you a list of tropes to add.

If you need help on anything of mine that might get added, just let me know, and I’ll give you a list of tropes you can add like I did last time.

I agree with you. They did some amazing stuff and they should be credited for it. Then again, a lot of people here have done a lot of amazing stuff. Except for me. It's so hard to choose.

Geez, whoever it is that’s been posting the new tropes for Ground Zero, you made it look like the story is nothing but fembot fucking fun. Lol.

Just remember that's only one path folks, you can also fuck mutants in another.

Is it just me, or did s/he delete a few tropes from that folder?

Spring Cleaning: Time to Update TV Tropes

This is the first time I’ve seen a folder for Ground Zero.

Ground Zero wasn’t even up there when you were first working on it, then later someone else just added the entry, but no actual tropes.

Maybe it’s a work in progress.

Okay. I'll be sure to show it some love.

You have a game where you can fuck fembots? Well, that's amazing.

Yeah, it's the experimental shelter, though everyone always thinks that Becky is the main goal.

For some reason the shelter paths are the ones everyone seems to go through the most. Most of the time everyone picks the community shelter and writes the protagonist off as some sort of asshole.

Personally, I find the paths where you don't buy the shelter a lot more interesting.

I'd imagine people would assume that in a game about the nuclear apocalypse, buying the bunker's the right choice.

Spring Cleaning: Time to Update TV Tropes

At least, that's what Fallout has taught us...

Spring Cleaning: Time to Update TV Tropes

I’d argue that Fallout taught us that 99% of the time going into a bomb shelter when the nukes hit was one of the worst things you could do given the experiments that were going on in most of them.

Fun fact: unless you're right on top of Ground Zero, you're probably going to be alright. If I recall the defense article correctly, 24-48 hours in a basement will be enough time for the worst of the radiation to disperse, and you can go outside and head to wherever you need to go that's in the opposite direction of the blast.

EDIT: This isn't the link I was thinking of, but it's still good. Yay, learning! 80% of the fallout should disperse within the first 24 hours. Obviously, being downwind is going to suck more.

EDIT II: So yeah, I concur, 'Fallout' Fallout Shelters probably aren't the safest bet thanks to Vault Tech's villainy.
