A place to sit back, hang out, and make monkey noises about anything you'd like.

So, I've been participating in these for not so long... very recently, and these are absolutely exciting! I have been thinking though, of making one of my own... I know I'm not experienced with these, but I've gathered the knowledge I could, and I have had some ideas lingering in my mind for years, but now, now I finally get to do something with them. I understand if some people don't think I should, but It's worth a shot! Am I right, loves?

You're so wrong.

I think you should've posted this in forum games, instead of well, here.

I wanted to ask about it first, and the lounge I thought was a good place to ask, I'm not starting here though, I'm asking for advice.

The general consensus about forum games is far from a positive one though. Umm, hopefully you do find the advice that you're seeking.

As this is not a forum game, but intended to be a discussion of what it takes to run one, I would say that the lounge is arguably the right place to put it, but I don't know what the current precedence is around here concerning this matter. It is very much in other hands.

My advice to you would be this,

Take note of what you like and dislike in other forum games you've not only taken part in, but many others you might look back and read over. Then consider what successful games have in common, and also where they diverge. Of course take into account what floundering and failed forum games have in common. Take all this as a guide book.

Other than that, here are some considerations,
Know your audience's motivations for playing, and make clear what you want to see as the game master. I think that is oft overlooked and of incredible importance. Make clear what you want to see and expect of players, especially in terms of tone and scale.

Were I you, I would continue to participate and learn how these things really work, their life cycle, their pull, push, and inherent expectations. If having that you still want to run one, take the time to develop an idea you could be individually proud of, independent of the success of the game. You should still like the idea even if the game goes awry or never manages to leave the take off lane.

Once you start, don't slouch.
