Deleted games becoming zombies

Possibly this has already been brought up at some point, but just wanted to toss a thread down about it before I get distracted.

This one has been a thing for awhile and I'm not sure if the reason was ever figured out. A game gives an internal server error when it's deleted and from then on, even though it can't be played, the description page is still available from the author's profile and it can still be pulled up on Google.

This has been a problem that pops up sometimes ever since the Warrior Cats purges. I thiiiiink zombie games can be avoided by unpublishing before deleting, but I haven't had much opportunity to test it. Maybe if we get another class of school kids here.

Unpublishing does seem to lower the chances for a zombie but it still happens.

Over the beginning months of being an admin I tried to permakill all the deleted stories I could and I still had like 40 zombies or so after it was done.

Of course that was like back in 2016 when I cleaned all those up, I’m sure the deleted story horde has only grown again and also mixed with the indestructible zombie stories.

Until the 500 Internal Server Error is fixed, the best you can do is edit the front page of a zombie story and change the title and description. The story itself is still gone anyway, only the front page hides its true empty shell.

Ugh.

Fine, let me put on my rubber gloves and pluck the pee fetish story out of the trash for manual relabeling.

I'm guessing it's the same bug.
