It was as End mentioned a terrible time. Unlike the glorious age of authoritarianism you all enjoy today, BerkaZerka was basically the only active mod, but without full admin powers. And JJJ aka the only one who could actually do things would disappear for months or years at a time.
I was around only very irregularly in those days, so someone like Sent or Malk could probably tell you more of what it was like in the trenches. But basically the site was flooded with 8 year old Warrior Cat fans.
Back then, there wasn't that 48 hour wait time between creating and publishing a game; it was only 90 minutes. And back then, there wasn't that nice big list of new games on the front page, only those five slots listed on the main storygames page.
So you could publish a legitimate game you had worked hard on, and in a matter of an hour have it washed entirely out of view by the deluge of "games" that all amounted to the same 500 mispelled words where you chose your cat's gender and then hunted with a cat of the opposite gender who would become your mate and together you would have six kittens.
The forums were overrun as well. That was back in the shameful days before Forum Games were nuked, so most users just did freeform roleplay all day, and they were overrun by these kids pretending to be sexual cats.
These kids that published the games would all get hilariously indignant and angry at being told they sucked too, if you ever see anyone memeing about "NICE COMMENTS ONLY", that's a reference to the days they would make these shrill demands in the description of every game, and start PMing people to harass them over any criticism. (Sometimes with their friends when they arrived in litters.)
There was no way to ban or correct any of these behaviors, if I have the timeline right, I think all Berka could do was move threads out of sight if they got too ridiculous.
So ultimately, the rest of the community (many of them made up of edgy middle schoolers at the time) found the only thing to stem the tide was to manually BULLY the obnoxious fur children off the site, one by one.
JJJ did return finally and tried to initiate reforms, banning Warrior Cats threads but also all freeform, leading to a mass furry exodus. Eventually just moved on to a ban of Warrior Cat games altogether, which still holds to this day.
Originally of course they did just try to unpublish the game to leave them private in the author's profiles, but as you found, those can still turn up in Google results, so more kids kept finding the site and making more games for years. At one point, the site's name was actually part of the Google autocomplete for "Warrior Cats game".
This state of things eventually led to the final solution, where all of the games were purged completely. And BerkaZerka for a long time was the most enthusastic at enforcing it, running searches to squash them while still in the litter box.
Actually surprised at the resurgance End found, I thought kids were over that shit now and moved on to other things. But we will just have to become vigilant in protecting our borders once again.
