Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

It's pretty minimalist, but I'd love some       playtesting. I have some things to do this evening, so if this version tests out okay, I'll probably just submit it to Ruin Jam as-is.

Well... That was interesting.

Well... care to elaborate? XD

Well, the possibility for several paths was nice and the way your story could change by the click of a mouse was good.

But I felt like it was going to run into a copy-paste environment like many stories similar to it run into. Unless a group of people/dedicated person really puts out the work to make it a good story it won't go very far in my opinion. Still, good luck Morgan. lol

Heh, thanks. Probably not going to continue with it, though... as you say, it would be too much work to get it to a level I'd consider to actually be good. But I think it's good enough for the jam. XD

I have to say, if anything, my hope in putting this one out into the world is that somebody will look at it, say 'that sucks, and I could do better'... and I'll eventually get to play the resulting game. XD

That sucks, I could do better. And there goes 100-200 hours of my life.

/kidding XD It was great. I really liked the format, and I wish this thing was longer. What platform did you use to make it?

Thanks! I made it with Twine. ^_^

And I just finished the adventure/modern and adventure/fantasy paths, though I'm not terribly happy with them. But at least it rounds it out a little. I may see if I can do survival/modern too. Throw in some zombies for all the folks who love zombies. XD

Welp, know I know your name. It's good!

The Book of Infinite Stories

Thanks! And yeah, no, it's a pen name. Paranoid, remember? XD

The Book of Infinite Stories

=D  Yay! I'm not the only paranoid one!

EDIT: Morgan Rille sounds like a kindly old librarian. I THOUGHT it was a little convenient...

XD

A rille is a geological feature of the Moon (and some of the planets) -- channels that sometimes have a branching structure. ^_^

Apparently, only the romance portion works. Also, it seems almost like a fancy version of mad gabs but with set input choices. No offense, but I feel the interactivity fell flat.

Adventure works now. And yeah, I'll probably take a different angle altogether, if I ever try to do story generation again. But I finished it and it's in the jam, so there's that. ^_^

The Book of Infinite Stories

Oh, yes, sorry about that.

The Book of Infinite Stories

No worries, I'm inclined to agree with your criticism -- between that and some other issues I had with it, I ended up taking it down. We'll see if I end up revising it. ^_^

Okay. You're not a bad writer, by any means. It's just that I feel TBoIS was a little cliche. On another note, I think I may download twine.

The Book of Infinite Stories

You totally should. ^_^

And yeah, I feel like I could have made it more cliche and tried to make it funny (although I'm no good at humor), or less cliche and tried to make it interesting, but as-is, it's pretty 'meh.'

No big deal, I just need to try something a little different. Though whether I'll ever finish it without the external pressure of a deadline, well.... XD

Hmm...the purpose of ruin fest is to celebrate the downfall of videogames. CYOAs, in the opinions of some people, aren't real games and are obsolete to video games, so any CYOA of good quality could be considered " a contribution to the inevitable end of video games", but that would be too subtle. It needs to be over the top.

The Book of Infinite Stories

Well, technically I wouldn't even call that a CYOA-style game... I'm honestly not sure what I'd call it. XD

But yeah, not being sufficiently 'in theme' for the jam was another contributing factor to me taking it down.

The Book of Infinite Stories

Hmm...I don't know how to ruin video games, aside from an abortion simulator. XD

Well, I'd almost do, just so I could gross people out. But, I don't think I could pull an Endmaster and make it so over the top funny that everybody ignores how horridly disgusting it is.

Nonchalant sardonism / sarcasm.

Well, that, and a comprehensive understanding de la ciudad de Detroit.

The Book of Infinite Stories

I've never been to Detroit, I'm afraid, but I am working on the nonchalant sardonism.

The Book of Infinite Stories

That´s a really interesting concept, i would like the story to be longer. xD

The Book of Infinite Stories

Aw, you took it down before I could post on it. sad

Oh well, you had your reasons. Just wanted to say something since I played it. It's interesting. It's definitely not a CYOA. If you wanted to do something with it, it could actually work as some sort of brainstorming tool or an idea generator, one that takes close advantage of the very similar plot structure most stories have.

Heh, sorry. And thanks, that's definitely the direction I'd be heading in. ^_^
