Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

Here's my thoughts on the matter:

If I select the council members myself, "the community" will undoubtedly complain that they weren't fairly represented.

If I let the community vote, I think Aman is right, and we'll end up with council members who refuse to discuss the matter seriously/fairly.

Therefore, this is how it's going to work:

I've selected some people I think are reasonable individuals.  Some of these people are pro-warriors, some are anti-warriors, and some really don't care.  These people will receive private messages.  If you don't receive one, don't bother me about it.

In the message, I'm going to ask those people to give me the names of two people they think should be on the council, and one person they think should not be on the council.

From those votes, the council will be selected.  The council will then discuss the WC issue.

Quotes from potential Council Members:

"People basically have read so many bad WC clones that now they feel licensed to outright attack or insult the author instead of being constructive which is not what I want to see on CYS."

"This is for discussion, not a culmination of 'factions' to debate their bias (aka we need people in the middle to come up with a solution, not extremists)."

"There have been multiple people who started fights in the forums over this just for the sake of starting fights and there have been multiple people who made an honest effort to keep peace and come up with actual solutions. I suppose, though, that it's best to choose people who have been recently and thoroughly invested."

Eh, if that is the case, should people be banned for it?  Or in order to avoid more of the same problem, should some pages be hidden from Google?

If banning is the way to go  have the offenders repeatedly done the same thing despite warnings?

Grey Council

To which particular offense are you referring? I imagine that solutions to the problem will be the main thing the council discusses.

General caps raging, rabble-rousing, flaming material :P

Grey Council

... Oh shiiiiiiit.

Grey Council

So, are you making a council just to shut up everyone who's complaining about WCs once and for all, or is this council actually going to have a real purpose going into the future?

Grey Council

I suppose we'll see.

Way back years ago, I remember demands from site members that they be allowed to form a council to make decisions, and the administration of the site being really adamantly against it.

It looks like in 2012 though, there was a council made of killa, ugilick, bo, october, zero, sindriv, and 3j?

Grey Council

Pretty close. Sindriv was dropped and replaced by me due to inactivity, and JJJ was more or less the "head", where he didn't have a vote, but he'd decide what we discuss.

Given I'm the only active member left from that council, it's not as though it's in use anymore, lol.

I have yet to see who will be in the council, but I will say that it is probably best that the council be disbanded after the WC issue is resolved and a new council be called, with a similar process, when another problem arises. This will ensure that we don't get a council of people that seem to have reasonable opinions on one matter, only to find that they have the same "kill 'em, kill 'em all with fire" opinion on another.

'Grey' Council.

I'd prefer a White Council

Grey Council

It should definitely White Council. In spite of it sounding kind of racist.

Grey Council

Hmm... I wish to meet the wise Maiar that run the council (as well as one or two elven or half-elven kind).

Grey Council

I look forward to seeing how this plays out.

A few more comments:

"The WC can be admittedly stubborn at times, and their stories might not be up to certain people's standards. Even so, it's not fair to treat them terribly. Both 'sides' have their rights and wrongs about this issue, but it wouldn't hurt for them to give each other a chance."

"This site is being taken over by an excessive amount of WC fans. Furthermore, the Warriors Cats stories are growing in numbers and have become a nuisance. The stories do not at all interest non-fans, instead they are just things they must do in order to earn points and trophies. Others just oppose having WC stories on here because they want to cause conflict."

"I think overall the issue really is the flood of sub-par games followed by the impassioned defense and attack comments."

Grey Council

Hey, it's been a few days since we've had any discussion on this. Are you still planning on calling a council to discuss the issue?

Grey Council

Yes.

Grey Council

Alright.

Grey Council

All right- top vote getters are receiving messages now.

Grey Council

Quick question, how many members will there be?

Grey Council

Not sure yet. Depends how many of the nominees accept. Around six.

Grey Council

I don't want to disturb, but there should be at least 7 people so that you don't reach a standstill during a vote.

Grey Council

Or, there could be only five. Or only three. Or as many as nine. Or, my vote breaks ties.

Grey Council

Or that... Wait, won't you be part of the council?

Grey Council

It's theoretically possible that there could be six people including me, and that if there's a tie, my side wins.

Alternatively, there could be six people without me, and I only vote if there's a tie.

Even more like a democratic republic, they could just be a council for discussing, and I make the final decision after considering their recommendation, without being bound to comply just because they voted for something.

Grey Council

I think the last one would be best. If my opinion has any value in this matter.

Grey Council

If it should come to a tie, I'm in favour of the second option. This way there's more of a community vote than the first and second options, while still ensuring a decisive vote should there be a tie.

Grey Council

"I'm in favour of the second option. This way there's more of a community vote than the first and second options..."

So the second option is more a community vote than the first and second option? Maybe you mistyped?

Grey Council

Claw,

oh Claw,

we all make mistakes sometimes. I myself do it frequently.

Grey Council

This time I really meant it. I didn't mean to correct the mistake as a grammar... anything.

Grey Council

Unless I'm reading my own bit wrong (which might very well be, I'm bloody tired atm) I think it is. The first option says that if a tie happens, Seth's (who will vote as well) side automatically wins and the third says that Seth will decide no matter the voting. The second option essentially gives Seth a tie-breaker vote should a tie happen, but otherwise he won't be involved.

Grey Council

Oh derp, just re-read my text. Yeah, I meant to say the second one is better than the first and the third...

Grey Council

Yeah... that's what bugged me...

Don't worry, I know how it is to make mistakes like those(more so when tired).

Grey Council

Nevermind

Grey Council

Ah. I didn't even notice that. I thought he meant the first and the third.

How the hell did I just glitch over that?

Grey Council

So, basically, you can veto anything, anyone, anytime, anywhere, right?

Grey Council

That doesn't sound very democratic...

Grey Council

The President can veto... But then it takes 2/3 (I think) of Congress or something to override it, right?

Grey Council

Yeah. I think so.

Grey Council

;P

Grey Council

So basically no, not at all what Seth said XD (unless you're only talking about the third option.)

Grey Council

So basically yes, it's what Seth said. It's a ,or b, or c. So he can pick any of the three options. So, yes, he can if he wants to.

Grey Council

I'm in favor of the third. We can trust the admins to be unbiased.

Grey Council

I vote in favor of the fourth option.

Grey Council

... OMG, there's actually a Warrior Cats council? If these guys are all trolls instead of innocent ten year olds with really bad grammar, they're the best trolls in the world! ^_^

Grey Council

Why do I get such bad vibes from the term 'Warrior Cats council'? :P

"In a world of decent stories, one council has the task to write bad fanfics. From the deepest corners of the internet, small kids, older kids and probably some creeps, unite to form... The Warrior Cats Council! *Play theme song*"

Grey Council

Because it sounds like an inexplicably terrible idea, but this is not a council made out of WC fans, this is a council to fairly decide what direction our site will move in to best accommodate everyone with the least amount of strife while upholding the standards of the community.

Grey Council

Warrior Cats council? Where?!

Grey Council

In your nightmares! *Scary music starts to play*

Hanging around, somewhere...

Grey Council

So... Are people who aren't actually on the council still allowed to talk on council related forums?

Grey Council

Probably, but they'll just be ignored. ^-^

Grey Council

That's okay, I just have a lot of ranty stuff I want to rant about. Doesn't really matter if people pay attention to it. cheeky

Grey Council

Go for it ^_^
