No offence to anyone, but
If you're gonna publish a story, FINISH IT!!!

*Ahem* Thank you.

What Anubis said. Don't release demos.. maybe keep them unpublished and give people a link to your editing part.. you know when you preview your own game? Copy that url, and tell people how to get to your story.

I guess I get the idea behind releasing a demo-- why put a lot of effort into a game if people don't like it after the first chapter, right?  But it seems like usually a lot of what people don't like is related to the fact that it isn't finished.

Quite true, quite true. We're not trying to bully you, evilplaster, we're just saying this.

what you authors need to ask yourself is this, "Am i writing to be liked? Or am i writing because im a writer?" too many people on here want to write very little and get praise for it. the fact is, the only way to write good, is to continue writing, that implies writing full stories and not demos. write for the sake of writing, not to get trophies or points, write because that is what you do.

Did you get that from some Philosipher or something, cuz if you did, you forgot the citing.

LOL I'm just kidding.

ummm,  lol.

i was just trying to say that demos are never good. if you want an opinion on how a game is going, add someoen as a coauthor. otherwise, dont write a story unless you are going to complete it. note i said, you are going to complete it, not "i plan on completing it" there is a difference.

ps, this is not directed to one individual. its for everyone who comes to the site in expectation of writing a story.

I agree.  A lot of writers I know talk a lot about the stories they're writing, and how great they're going to be, and yet they never seem to produce anything, at least, anything they let anyone else read.  Another writing group I know had a whole big discussion on whether a mediocre finished story is better than a great unfinished story.

Yeah, this isn't even really about this site, just a general writing comment.

I'd say a great unfinished story, but on this site, you just leave the story on sneak preview if you haven't finished it. People can still get to it by tweaking the url if they want to see ones you have on display on your profile page.

Yes, but how do you know it's great if it isn't finished?

If it's great and it's unfinished, it's bad luck that they didn't put in the effort to make it complete.

And you're the president of the Anti-Demo Society?

It kinda seems like you're saying that a great demo is better than a mediocre finished game- is this right?

New Game

No, what I meant to say is if it is a great game and unfinished, it's bad luck that they don't put the effort in to finish it and publish it. A great demo and a mediocre finished game are both bad.

True.  I hate demos that seem like the game would be really great- but they never publish the game.  Not just on this site.

Who has SIX unpublished games? When do you plan to finish all of yours eh?

Instead of adding somebody as a co-author, you could sneak preview it for a minute and PM the person who you want to view it and let them view the game, and then un-sneak preview it. This is only because I've seen a game where the author couldn't get rid of the co-authors who did nothing.

ummm you knw you can remove htem from teh game screen right?

Oh. Well, one of the games that I think it was Leon who wrote, he couldn't delete the co-authors. I thought once they were co-authors you were all equals to the game and you couldn't delete the other co-authors.
