DESTROY THE CLASSIC EDITOR
Hmm. Your disbelief in the Classic Editor's abilities are starting to sound to me like a challenge. Are there really no games since October 2006 using the Classic Editor? Anyone?
If no one has, and if you really aren't going to try making one for the competition, then I feel it must be my obligation to create a classic game and try to make it worthy of a prize! It would be my duty to the site! All hail the mighty classic editor!
i would love for someone to represent the classic editor properly rather than tearing it down. we are blessed that we have the tools on this site. when war and peace was written, did he have a computer with internet access? when the bible, this is not a religious debate, was written, did they have typewriters? no. they had paper and pencil/pen/blood, whatever they could get their hands on. please represent the classic editor properly tsmpaul. im behind you all the way!!!

i wrote one back in like '03 i think. its called The Family: A Gangster's Legacy. it was featured at one point, but taken down. its been updated recently, which i think takes away from the story. in other words, i think i ruined it. however, you can play it in the modern adveture category. stay away from the links that alude to B.B. though. thats the extra bad parts. lol
Regarding classic games- I think part of the reason no one uses them is that a lot of the "gameplay" style choices can be done with advanced.
What I mean is- many of the "Lone Wolf" style adventure books (also games like Magus) will give choices like "If you have the spear. . " or "If you are a Fire expert. . ." and to some extent, it feels a little like cheating to write a classic editor game that uses this option, when the advanced editor can do it with variables or items.
LOL. You really want him to spend the money on runners-up prizes, don't you :) As you said earlier, if a game isn't worth a prize, Alexp wouldn't give one out, so if I make a classic game, and it isn't any good, it won't get a prize. I think the classic editor should stay around - not everyone is interested in learning things like scripting and variable use. Some people just want to make a simple interactive story, so they should be allowed to use this web site too. I think the more options Alexp gives the website, the more different types of people will use the site, and different age groups. And that should be a good thing. Besides which, Alexp already said he could be giving merchandise prizes to runners-up, so that implies not all his money would be spent on giving people cash prizes. Not to mention - didn't you win a competition last year already?
Oh and about your take on it, Sethaniel. Yes, it's true that the advance editor can do stuff the classic editor can do better. However, the classic editor it is much easier to do things than it is with the advance editor (which takes some learning curve, I still can't use it very well) while the classic editor takes no skill. Which in the end, is really it's purpose, to allow people that have no skill for varibles or anything to write stories on here with no learning curve. I think that the classic editor is appriciated enough. It's alright to not like it, but jeeze, don't ruin it for everyone else.
NOTE: I MEANT NOT APPRICIATED ENOUGH.
Nothing wrong with the classic, I just don't see why you can't just use the advanced without any variables/scripting whatsoever. Exactly the same as classic but you get chapters if you want them, which can be helpful in organizing the story.
yeah except for numerous bugs, horrible layout and no fully customizeable options.
actually, i just got back from my library. and guess what i looked up? i found a few books that are located throughout my city. but not at my local library. id have to ask them to transfer it to my library.
Well, I made a classic editor story-game. I've been so busy this week - I didn't put as much time into the story as I would have liked. Mostly, I had trouble working out how to describe scenes in it, so I'll leave a lot of it up to your imagination, and hope it all makes sense :)
I called it RUSH!
