Multiple Endings

Hey, I'm not sure if this is even the place to ask this, but I will ask anyway. I'm writing the sequel to a game I made, one with multiple endings. Because of the multiple endings of the first game, I'm forced to either pick a Canon ending from the first game, or try to make the sequel with multiple different narratives for each different ending for the first game, which would mean a lot more work and for the endings of the first game to have very similar results. Does anyone have any suggestions on which of those to do, or remarkable solutions to this problem?

This is the right place to ask any questions to do with writing your own storygames.

This is one of the reasons why it's better that you don't make sequels for storygames. You're generally better off putting it all into one big storygame instead of breaking it apart into a series, though there are exceptions. I haven't played your storygame so I can't really make an informed response for this particular case, but I think most of the time it's better to pick one canon ending and stick to that for the reasons you mentioned.

One extreme possibility is to unpublish your existing storygame and write the next part of your story directly onto that. I don't know if that's going to be a problem for you though, especially if it's your featured storygame.

^^^ This.

Or, worst case, just pick a canon storyline and go with it.

Is this Achilles or that story where you play as a Nazi?

This would be Achilles.

Go with a canon ending.

You can start with writing out a cannon path, and if you feel up to it, add something like this in - though you will definitely have to tinker around with it. It was an idea that never got developed fully, but can be used with some work to make a direct continuation from an ending in the first of a series, and continue it in the second.

Make the canon ending an original one that wasn't possible in the first story.

I'd say pick the ending you consider canon if you want to make things easy for yourself.

There is sort of a non-committal way of explaining away some of stats and effectively "restart" them for the sequel.

You do have a war with the Alliance and whether you resolve it peacefully or beat the chicken soup out of them, you can just mention something like "despite your victory over the alliance, its members still aren't in complete awe of you and indeed some see you as oppressors"

The lizards are even easier. Even if you did manage to get along with them, they're a warrior type race with several factions and probably several of those still aren't going to be happy with you.

While you might have still had a strong war fleet by the end of the Achilles you can also explain that it's not quite as powerful now due several of the ships being in need of repair or upgrades having to be built (And a weak fleet would need to rebuild anyway)

For your multicultural rating, even if you didn't clamp down the iron fist on the alien population, you can state that the war has even made some of the alien citizens uneasy and restless (Resulting in a lower trust) or conversely if you did clamp down, you can assume you released the reins a bit due to the war being over (which would explain the increase in freedom, but still the lack of trust in humans)
