The Fourth Rule of Write Club

...is that you DO talk about it. Because at Storygamers Anonymous, one of our guiding principles is transparency.

We're still working on the order, but I like:

Respect

Consent

Kindness

Transparency

...feedback welcome.

And yes, I'm serious. I'm starting a Slack... with one of my Particular Friends. I told her you're an unruly bunch of pups and guttersnipes, and she said, "sign 'em up." And I said sir yes sir, because, wellll... She may be my ex, but she's the captain of this ship. Even if I named it. Even if she's making me co- owner. SO. If you want in... patience is a virtue. She and I are both new to Slack, and we're figuring it out as we go. Also, it is STRICTLY 13+, and invite-only.

But, yes. If you know me, you're probably invited. Unless your name is Dracoblare or Ryder.

Yep. I liked that little minion. He was a complete weirdo... but I have a certain avuncular fondness for young weirdos. Or, y'know, whichever gender variant would match 'Auntie Morgan.' ;)

Okay. Not QUITE ready to open the floodgates, given how busy both Alix and I are, but we kind of promised/threatened each other that we'd have SOMETHING going by the New Year, so, here goes some invites. Note that to ACCEPT your invite, you MUST pm me your e-mail address. Doesn't have to be your primary, obviously... if the name Storygamers Anonymous didn't give it away, this is not a Real Names Only sorta venue. In fact, once we're a little further along, we're actually going to dub a whole bunch of people admins, so they can invite too, so hopefully we can get something of a snowball effect. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Invitations!

@AlexP -- because it's not my intention to do this behind his back, and because despite all my griping, I really respect the work he did here. CYS was waaaaaaaay before its time in a lot of ways, even as it built on something older. And I respect that.

@JJJ-thebanisher -- because he told me my Tavern wasn't worth 6,000 points... and he was right. Because he laid down the law when all I wanted was for people to self-modulate better... and he was right. Also, mad props for his meta-game crafting skills. I'll never forget the ship that was the White Sail.

@BerkaZerka -- because he's put a hell of a lot of points into Wisdom. Because he let me get really damn weird on his forum, and that was genuinely helpful. Because he shut me up, but he did it with respect and kindness. Also, I wanna actually play one of HIS games, someday. XD

@Sethaniel -- for reasons. Which he can let me know if he wants me to say, or not.

@madglee -- for being crazier than me... maybe. ^_~

@FazzTheMan -- for being the first person I wrote a game-message to, and for his ever-thoughtful criticism.

@Kiel_Farren -- for helping, in so many ways. For Kiel, I kind of suggest taking on a different, less-helpful persona, actually? Because you help so much here, Kiel, and in your RL too... just... maybe have a place where you don't have to do that?

Anyone can do that, of course. Storygamers Anonymous: Where You Can Be Someone Else.

@TheNewIAP -- for having more projects than he knows what to do with, and all of them awesome.

@TacocaT -- for being compassionate and thoughtful, and wise beyond her years

@Ronhil12 -- for his intelligence, potential, and drive... and for being an unexpected friend in an unexpected place.

OKAY. That's NOT everyone, not by half, but those are the names that came most readily to mind, and, well, I actually have a bit of a cold, so I should really be resting, and not sitting at my computer to better copy handles.

If you're not on this list, and WANT to be, PM me your e-mail address and a one-to-three sentence statement of Why You Are Secretly Awesome. Could be Not-So-Secretly Awesome, too, if that's easiest.

Have fun, folks, and DO try not to trash the place. But, well, you know the rule I always like to include in all my games... have fun, too. ;)

Thanks for the invite and the kind words. *chuckle* Adopt a less helpful persona, huh? Damn irony. I pick my most selfish, arrogant bastard of a character for my pen name and people keep accusing me of being too nice. :P Never thought, before CYS, that anyone would say "Kiel could stand to be LESS helpful." Ehh, I guess I don't channel the man very well. Except maybe in a few snarky reviews and heated debates.

To be honest, though, I'm not totally sure what you're inviting me to.

Slack is invite-only social networking, basically. Kind of a cross between a chat room and a forum. Honestly, you're busy enough here that I dunno if you really want to join, buuuut one of the things I'm hoping to do is get a larger group of potential testers together, and I know that's been an issue for you in the past.

Anyway, just PM me your email, if you want to check it out.

Cool beans, got put at the top of that list.

Anyway thanks for the invite, and I might even pop in, but I'm sort of wondering the same thing as Kiel which is I'm not entirely sure of what you're exactly inviting me to.

Morgan here is inviting us to an app called Slack. It's a team communication thingy where people talk in real time, like Viber or Facebook Messanger.

I heard it was used by a team that sent a rover to Mars :). It's not bad at all, I am using it with my friends, and its's pretty cool.

I'll just need your email. Feel free to use a spam account, but not an actual throwaway, because your login will be keyed to your email. And, well, what Ronhil said, except it doesn't have to be real-time. It's a little like IRC, I'd say, if you've used that, but very modular. I'll be running my RP game(s) there, & hopefully having some good discussions about IF & other narrative-driven games.

Will anyone other than you be able to see my email?

The Fourth Rule of Write Club

I think that everyone in the "club" will be able to see your e-mail. There's probably an option to hide it thoug, either on the team settings or on the profile page.

Yes. Any admin can see your email and whatever you enter as your "real name" (which doesn't have to be your actual real name, of course.) As we'll be adminifying quite a few people, I suggest you use an address you don't mind people seeing.

I don't know if it's just me, but the website's not loading. I did a self-help test but nothing seems to be out of order.

No idea what's up, but if the problem persists, PM me here and I'll try to figure out their tech support system.

But... But my name is Drakoblare or Ryder!

JK, I want in.

Mainly because you're holding Streets of Ild on whatever this site is...

But I still want in.

Happy to have you on board! Just send me your email, unless you did. I'm really scattered lately, so I hope you'll all excuse me if I forget things like who I've actually invited. >_<

The Fourth Rule of Write Club

Thanks for the invite, though I'm currently barely able to handle my own projects, so I'll just wish you guys luck from the sidelines on this one.  :)

So, what exactly would one do in this writing club? I'm curious, even if the answer may be obvious...

Wellll, technically it's not just for writing, it's for anyone with any sort of interest in narrative-driven games. Roleplaying games, interactive fiction, or any other sort of story-oriented games. And it's on Slack, so it's sort of a hybrid of a forum and something more like IRC/chat. We're definitely still figuring it out as we go! But you'd be welcome, if you think you might be interested. Just send me a PM with your e-mail, and I'll invite you the next time I do a round of invites.
