Horror tips? Need experienced.

It's me again, I am resuming my horror sci-fi game. I'm not asking for co-authors at all, as that rarely works out. But rather I am asking for tips from experienced horror writers and just ordinary horror movie watchers ;)

All help, well, helps!

The thing about horror is it's an art. You can take the tips and tricks to heart when asking about specific things, but you learn this primarily by doing it. This is the deal with everything that's hard to pull off in writing. Romance? It's the absolute bane of everyone's existence, up until the guy in question actually goes and does it, and then feels comfortable with it. Dialogue? That's been a serious problem of mine for years until a little after I came to CYS. I'm serious, most of my stories were entirely narrative up until I joined the site, it was actually really ridiculous what lengths I went to to avoid it.

It's like fighting. If you want to learn to kick ass, you can work out and practice tips and tricks from martial arts, but the only guarauntee that you can kick ass is actually going about and kicking ass. You need experience. And yes, you're going to make mistakes, and yes, some of it will suck, but big feckin' deal, we all have cringey shit from our past writing experiences. We all lived on after that. So tell the voices in your head to shut up and just practice writing horror. Again, if you have questions on the finer points, you can feel free to ask them, but the best advice I can give you on this vague, general prompt, is just do it.

Just think about what scares you the most. None of that "clowns" or "dentists" shit, think about the things that you base your whole life upon avoiding. Maybe abandonment, judgement, being a failure... Whatever it is, snatch it up and base your story on it. Then chuck in some blood, guts, disturbing images and wrap it all up nicely and sprinkle with adjectives. Serve with a side helping of a good plot and it should end up delicious.
