Here is a little something I've been working on for awhile and have almost finished :)

The Secret of Daphne

The little town of Daphne boasts a population of only 300 people and is between twenty and thirty miles away from the nearest neighboring town. A historical main street has restaurants, cafes, and clothing stores. Meanwhile, the local high school is a small, tight knit group with only 40 students in the current graduating class.

The Snow family moves in from a distant, urban city into an old ranch house on the outskirts of Daphne. Their new house is picturesque with beautiful rolling hills, blooming dogwood trees, and horse pastures in the neighboring properties. For awhile they believe they have found the answers to their problems. Mr. and Mrs. Snow begin to heal from their recent betrayal of each others trust, Lydia, their seventeen year old daughter, finds solace in the quiet country side, and their four year old, Wren, is always running around the endless property.

But, when something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Lydia finds an old diary hidden away in the new house. As she reads its passages, she begins to realize that there is more to the citizens of Daphne than meets the eye. As she reads about the past, it begins to correspond eerily with the present. And when her little sister begins to only spend time with her new imaginary friend, everyone is on edge. 

Lydia begins to withdraw, uncertain of who to trust, as she reads about the abuse and betrayal of the writer of the mysterious diary. When the diary ends suddenly, leaving the end of the story a complete mystery, Lydia begins to lose her sanity. Is everything happening just in her head? Or is there really something sinister going on behind the scenes of Daphne? And if something is going on, just what is it? And what does it have to do with the diary?

Can you discover the Secret of Daphne? And just how deep does the web of lies tangle? Who can you trust? Just beware, because history often repeats itself. And when you only know what happens leading up to the crime, but not the crime itself, can you figure out the impending danger before it's too late?

Haha, I have been. It helps me to go back and forth whenever I get writers block on one of them XD

This sounds like it will be a pretty great story, and if The Street Children Demo showed your true writing skill I won't be disappointed. Anyway good luck on them both and I can't wait for either one of them. :)

This one doesn't have as many 9 paragraph pages as TSC does. XD. But, I really like how it is turning out. I just need to fine tune some scripting for items and finish one of the paths then I'll have it ready to publish :)

Is there an estimated release date or are you just going with the flow?

 

Going with the flow. I'm converting it over from word, scripting the items, and setting it all up. It's finished, just needs to be put together and fine tuned :). It shouldn't take me too terribly long, just depends on how much school I have in the afternoons. 

It should be done no later than next week, but if I keep having as much free time as I have so far this week then it'll be done by the weekend. :)

Almost done. It's taking longer to script the items and find good pictures to represent them. I've never done a game with so many items before XD. And there is a decent bit of 'search and find' in this game so there are a lot of items, some combine later to give a new item, ect. 

So far I can guarantee 6 different endings. 3 good and 3 bad. Each one reveals a different 'secret' based on what evidence you managed to find throughout the game. Hints about certain item locations/combinations are hidden in pages, dialogue, and diary entries. All 3 paths correspond together, but the endings are so different that I think it'll be my least linear game yet. :D

Already have 100 pages done. Just need to keep scripting links and items, checking for bugs, copy the rest of the story from word onto pages, add the rest of the items, and then it'll be ready. :D Shouldn't take more than a week to iron it out. This is my first attempt at scripting anything so I am very excited :D

Okay, so I am a bit conflicted...

The character you play as, Lydia Snow, is kind of an immature, snarky highschool girl.  I did my best to capture that in her attitude of thought/speech, but I almost want to smack her up until the mid point of the story. Once stuff starts happening, she matures a bit. 

I can't decide if I did got the character of an annoying, bitch teenage girl down to a fine art or if I actually created an annoying character. If I change her, then now would be the time. Since it's just the first 1/3 of the story where she acts like that. 

-__- I am afraid I may have a sad, warped view of highschool girls... Oh dear... If I had gone to school with Lydia, I probably would have gotten into a cat fight with her before I graduated... and I would have broken her jaw so she would shut up XD.

Oh, what I find annoying is the constant dialogue of using "Like, omigosh, totally, ect." So what do you guys think? Am I staying true to a character or subconsciously crucifying the teenage girl stereotype?

It depends. I am always amused by the stereotype, and I actually have had classmates in high school who were worse then that. So it really depends if you want it to be more serious. I wouldn't mind, but I'm not everyone.

Yeah... And Lydia is one of those girls where she just gets sarcastic and bitchy whenever she is scared... 

Oh the one hand, comic relief! On the other hand... I want to strangle a fictional character... 

But, when shit gets real(and it does), she isn't so annoying and stupid. She is kinda a stereotypical horror movie character. Except instead of dying quickly because she is stupid and doesn't listen to warnings, she wises up just enough to not die.

Or is stupid enough to not do the strategy. Intelligence does counter instinct in some cases.

It's worth noting that you've probably read over your dialogue many more times than your player will, especially if there's much branching. So what's become intolerably annoying to you might be amusing to us. ;)

Okay, almost done. I am adding a new path since I was inspired this week after having a nasty little nightmare. So once I'm done writing the new path into the game I'll be ready to publish! :D

Scripting this maze of pages is taking way too long -_-'

Everytime I think I have it right and can move on to adding more pages to it, I find a hole in the script that then messes up the whole thing from that point on *cracks knuckles* Time to pull an all nighter and have a few pots of coffee, because I want to finish it! :D

Yeah, it's amazing how many bugs pop up in Scripting and what you are actually juggling to keep track of it all! Let me know if you need another set of eyes for checking through your Scripting if you need it :)

I may take you up on that BZ!  Right now it's just taking awhile for me to put it together, then make sure it works. Once I do that I may message you and see if you can look at it for me. It's my first time in a story where everything is scripted(links, items, variables). Most of what I'm worried about is it not working in the order I want it too and appearing out of order to the player. -_-

If it's any indication of how others will like my story, the new path I added to it is actually creeping me the hell out as I write it. XD. I keep wanting to stop, but I want to get it published ASAP.

Cool, sounds like a good story. Hopefully it creeps me out. I have trouble getting frightened by stories. 

Honestly, writing one of the endings made me feel like sleeping with a light on. And I never get creeped out, much less by my own writing. I think it was the shock of what happens... and I was a little disturbed at myself for coming up with XD

Almost done. I got all the scripting together.

Just tweaking a few things about scores and making sure all the pages are scripted into the right place. Then I'll message everyone that offered to help with a link to the preview. Shouldn't take me more than an hour to finish :D

Fun! Anyways, how long did this take you too write? It doesn't seem that long of a time.

I already had the entire story written(except for one path I decided to add), so since I announced it I only had to create the items, variables, and script the whole thing. :)

*SIGH* Stupid me forgot the script over the links in one of the paths I had done before I put in a global script to implement the time variable. If anybody testing it runs into a wretched loop because of this, I am very sorry but I need to sleep -__- Will fix that error tomorrow

Also, quick update:

• fixed bug where portfolio item disappeared after visiting it's default page
• rewrote the script for sending the player to the achieved end path so that it doesn't loop endlessly
  • Please check me on this as the variable of Time should reset, but may still need tweaking
• Working on a page where player can attempt to guess the meaning of the Numbers in game for a chance to obtain a very special item in game.

Wow, I wasn't expecting a post on this thread. I only noticed it because I was going to update my Daphne II thread.

But, to answer your question:

*spoiler, highlight to read* yes. If you pay attention, I follow Dante's concept of Hell and its circles. The demon is from the second Circle, known as Lustful. A lot of stories about demons throughout history paint them as sexual beings, especially in a depraved nature. Cultures that believe in 'evil' spirits often have similar beliefs. Also, it's an added horror element. The demon is attempting to possess you, the player/main character. It makes sense that it would want to dominate the victim in all aspects, breaking their will to fight off the possession.  *end spoiler*
