The Western Front has an interesting premise of a 19 year old after high school who volunteered to the german trenches during World War I.
One of the biggest issues is its linear structure. While death in the story can be common, the choices makes me feel more like a trial-and-error game rather than an engaging narrative. For example, having a decision to throw back a grenade could have some extra choice.
I found it odd that somebody would volunteer without a clear reward and risking close death.
My overall impression for "the Western Front" is it's fine story that could've had more character interaction for a better experience. As it stands, I'd rate it a 3/8.

Nothing exactly wrong with it, I guess it technically accomplishes what it set ou to do. But it feels pretty dry. Consider establishing a little more detail about the protagonist on the first page; what their life was like before the war, how they actually feel about things as they enlist. Something more engaging than two sentences about their age and name and what the time period is anyway.
There really was no point to the "stay behind" choice if it's going to just end the game immediately. It would have actually be interesting to explore the less valorous but more realistic (and more realistically survivable) side of things. I don't think actual soldiers were chomping at the bit to volunteer the way the game expects you to. If this one that we're playing is, why not go a little into his mindset about it and drop the fake choice entirely?

It is good, but it would be better if it were longer and there were more paths to take.

This shows promise, and I like how there's evidence of branching. At the same time, it reads more like a summary of events rather than an interesting story.
I would recommend working on it some more, but good effort.
