Player Comments on Awakening of the Tower (Roguelike RPG)

I think you entered a prototype version of this in the puzzle comp?

Impressive amount of scripting here, so that's worth a pat on the back all on its own, but I kept wishing for even just a few shreds of narrative to lend interest and hold it all together. In general, more choices in the dungeon sections might've gone a long way--choices related to exploring or non combat encounters, or just fluff like memories, setting details, etc. No matter how fancy the scripting gets, at the end of the day there's only so much entertainment value that can be stuffed into repeatedly clicking 'Attack'.

As far as the combat itself goes, again there was obviously a large and complicated amount of scripting involved. It's great to see people putting this level of effort into a more game-like game. Though I kept finding it annoying to be attacked after enemies were killed. There was no way at all around this?

ex: You damage the Wolf for 9 points! The Wolf now has 0 Life Points remaining!

The Wolf attacks you! You take 11 points of damage! You have 29 life remaining!


Also, just a minor nitpick, but it's an 'Aggressive' attack. Two Gs. Not a huge deal, except that that's a message we see over and over again.

Very fun! Quite simple but clearly done well.

I love the rpg element and the combat integrated in the game along with a story line, but it feels like it has very little quests. However, it is still pretty good and worth every penny.

I really enjoyed this, would definitely recommend to others.

Thoroughly enjoyable to play. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more danger in Survival mode, as after you get the Spear of Elder Gods you can one-shot Wyverns and two-shot Minotaurs and Cerebus. Still, I'm quite impressed!

Fun and quick. I played it twice with a 26 the 1st time and a 19 the second. It helps to get maze. I wish the quests would vary.

This was really fun. I really like game storygames, and this one was done well.

Not as much choice as I would have liked, still a fun, short romp.

Great storygame! It was very reminiscent of a Pathfinder adventure. The only thing that I have a problem with is that the enemies jumped from doing 4 damage to 16 damage almost immediately (2 encounters apart.) Otherwise great work!

Short but fun. The dragon kicked my butt at the end but all that means is he's a fantastic villain! I think the other enemies were creative as well. The spells ran out quickly but it could have been worse. Everyone should at least give it a try.

Great Game! I'm going to have to try the next one. 8/8, mainly because of the idea with the random events.

It's fun, but I wouldn't exactly call it a gamebook. More like a Neverwinter Nights module that focuses more on gameplay than roleplay. But hey, fun is fun

Okay so first this is Awesome! And the cheat codes are intriguing! Before I even played it I tried the- how do I say this without telling everyone the code?... Okay I think I got it, I tried the 99999 code, and no that's not the code for all you people wanting to find it in the comments. But when I did enter it I was surprised that it even worked! All in all great game!

This story is well crafted. I found it a bit challenging, but not insurmountable.

I can't believe that somebody was able to make a game like this. It isn't actually that punishing, unlike most Roguelike games. My only problem is that you are somewhat limited in your actions (or at least feel kind of limited). Other than that, you should give this a try for sure.

This game is very nice! I can see all the hard work put into it. I only wish there was more story to it because it felt a bit more random sometimes. You could have connected all the different characters together and created a more fluid story out of it. I also wish it was longer because i really enjoyed it.

This was really good, it was short but makes up for it with the variability. Am looking forward to the prequel and sequel.

Hmm... I'm just wondering that the survival mode says the game never ends but how come I still reach the end after defeating the Dragon? I thought it would not end as it said it would. ;)

It's a cool game, and I like how you make it a different play for each floor every time you replay the game. Bright idea! =)

don't give you enough ways to stay healthy heals and armour and weapons are to much gold for the little amount of gold you can get

I enjoyed it. I died near the end, though.

Non-combat spells are used the moment you purchase them.

You can't use non-combat spells. If you fix that then you have a very good game.

For a short RPG style game, this was actually fun.

This contains some spoilers:

the choices of race and class at the start only really affect the bonus' you get, however you can picture yourself as that race along with your choice so it worked at least for me. There were some choices to be made with gold and xp though my style meant I had a really easy run of it

So I chose the elf wizard, reasoning that exp was the way to go and I was right, I bought a certain spell that meant I had a level 16 weapon right from the start and could use my gold on armour, that along with healing spells etc. made it easy. I didn't use teleport or walk so I will play through again and see if I can teleport back to the lower levels and find more.

The only issues seem tob e due to how short a period this was made over. Several floors are simply the same page as before repeated over again with no changes and the game is very short, more choices and length would be a great improvement.

The game has over 25 events across all the floors. I plan to add more options in them, and maybe even more new events, in the final update. There are also a few bugs I missed and one pic doesn't work. Also clearing out some balancing issues in the final patch. I might even create a third and final game in the series but that will be a long way off (I have my finals). For some reason, I can't post in the forums and thus I won't be able to participate in the competition also. If you people have some ideas or a title in your mind for the final game in the series then you can PM me. Peace out. :)

Did I get a high score? It seems that cheat mode makes me invincible. Anyways, I think I've discovered everything, though I really can't ever be sure. Don't really get the acid pool thing. It seems that either way I lose 1 armor.

Got lucky lol. Got treasure on first floor, left it, got weapon, bought bloodsword, bought fireball and then teleported to 10th floor. Killed dragon with ease. :) Will Update it one last time sometime.

This was quite fun to play. Good game

It's a neat game. Typical dungeon crawling. Kill opponents, get stuff, buy stuff to help you kill more opponents. The cycle continues. But it's a very impressive game. I could tell that you worked hard on it, and it paid off in my eyes.

It had very good scripting. The cheat codes and all the different choices made it very fun. It also had some different ideas and features than other dungeon games. The plot was standard for a dungeon runner, and feasible. I wish that you had maybe had a physical item for spells and such.
