Well, Hullo There (: on 4/6/2010 8:21:39 PMOkay, so I tried the script, and I'm not sure if I did something wrong or what, but it doesn't seem to be working.
Basically, at the beginning of the game, I want to ask a few questions, and each answer changes a stat a certain way... And if you get the highest in stat #A, for example, it takes you to page 15, as I said before.
On the last page, I had one single link, with the script that you said to try. However, when I tested it out, the link took me to the page that had been set, not the page specified in the script. I made sure that the choices I made would cause one stat to be higher then the rest, but it still wasn't working...
Any idea why? The only thing I think could be messing it up is because the different pages I have set in the script all lead to different chapters...

Thanks. That's what I thought it'd probably be, I just hadn't tried it. xD
I'll test it sometime in the next few days, but my computer isn't working (I'm doing this from my iPod haha), so I haven't gotten much done...
And I guess I'll have to fix the variables and such so I works right... Which could be difficult. Haha.

Thanks you guys... I'm looking forward to getting work done on it. Now that spring break is over, I'll be hardpressed for time, but I'm still super excited.
I do have one question, if none of you would mind answering it. Normally, I'd go to the advanced whatchamacallit board, but I figured since I'm already here... It's sort of a scripting/variables question...
The question is:
Say I have three variables: A, B, and C... If variable A is higher then B and C, I want the link to go to page 1. If B is highest, to page 2, and C to page 3. How would I do this? Please, and thank you. xD

Thanks, I'll most definently check it out.
And as for my game, I know what you mean. The only reason I've gotten as far as I have with my variables and items and what not is for two reasons. For one, I already had about half the story planned in my head. Now it's just a matter of making it into words. Secondly, I've spent all of today and half of yesterday working on it. You see, outside of school and sports, I basically have no life. Haha.
But if things turn out the way I plan (though they rarely do), it will be a fairly large project and hopefully long and detailed. I have some ideas that I haven't seen yet, but of course I haven't read a terribly large amount of stories... I'm hoping it all works out, but it is only my first game, so my expectations aren't /terribly/ high.

Haha, yep. I disliked the lack of options with the basic creator, and by the time I had signed up, I already had tons of ideas.
Um... Well, in these last two days, I believe I've read half the featured stories. I did read "Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight", and thought it was genius. Madglee did an amazing job. And I believe Mattias the One Knight was the first story I read. Great MAG, by the way. A lot of fun. And of course, I've read some random stories, most of which I can not recall their names.
But overall, I believe this website has already made my top fives, though I must admit, it will never make #1. That space, is and always will be taken by MLIA, another obsession of mine. xD
And I'm glad I did read the tutorials. The scripts still remain a bit of a mystery to me though, since I haven't started to mess with them in my story quite yet. So far I've done most of the items and variables, and the first few pages...

Hey, CYS Community!
My name is Daraddar, and I am, of course... new to this site.
I found it when I did a Google search for: "Choose Your Own Adventure game online", or something of that nature, after I had played one on my iPhone. I must say, I'm extremely excited to be here. Everyone seems great, and I think I might just fit in here...
For anyone who wants to know a bit more about me, I'm a total video-game nerd. Guess I was just born that way. I sometimes overuse smilies, I'm a bit of a goody-two shoes, and I'm obsessed with Harry Potter. I love writing, and I've also loved CYS games ever since I was little (you remember those books? They're kind of old now, but a fun read none-the-less). I've already read several stories, and I've actually already started my own, which I'm hoping will turn out the way I want it to. Of course, being the way I am, once I took a look at the basic editor, I switched to advanced. I spent the entirety of today reading nearly every single tutorial on variables, items, and scripting, so I guess we'll see how it turns out.
So once again, hello! (:
