The Deep/Dark Web

In case you've never heard of the deep/dark web, it's a secret internet not accessible by normal search engines. It requires a modified computer or laptop to be accessed. It is estimated that the deep is about 500 times larger than the normal web. The public web is only the tip of the iceberg. If you could think of one thing that could happen, anything, I assure you, it has happened on the deep web.

The deep web offers complete anonymity, so therefor, you can say and do anything you like. It shows the true nature of the human mind: There are black markets, illegal pornography, drug and human trafficking, websites where you can hire assassins and hackers, and websites for murderers, cannibalists, human experimentation, and satanic rituals, to name but a few.

Not only this, but there are rumors that the government knows everything that goes on in the deep web, but simply chooses to ignore it. When they do take down a website, it usually appears again about two months later. Politicians use it, and there are conspiracy theories that the government doesn't destroy the dark web to keep the balance of the universe in check. (I think this is nonsense.)

The deep web is mainly a confusing mass of links, most of them leading to dead websites and outdated things. But if you do go on the deep web, one of the main things you shouldn't do is just go clicking on random links. This can be extremely dangerous. There are lots of YouTube videos about people's deep web experiences, and many are horrifying. Nearly every video warns NEVER to just click on random links.

Oh. Well, I'm new here, so I didn't know.

It's fine, besides we never got around to discussing the infamous Marina Web. It's the deepest you can go and it's controlled by a sentient A.I.

Make sure you've got the best deck money can buy, gear up on ICE breakers and other protection before venturing there.

Surface Web: No passwords required, public access; sites like reddit, CYS, google, facebook, etc.

Deep Web: password protected, things not found by search engines. Such as if I were to try to google "Ford's email inbox" nothing would come up, and if it did I wouldn't be able to access my inbox without a password.

Dark Web: Not as interesting as people think. Sure there's tons of illegal shit and if you don't use 7 proxies you'll be arrested, but otherwise it's ancient message boards complaining about the public web or world news. You hear about how illegal and edgy it is because that's the only shit that people want to hear about. 4/10 not worth your time unless you want to watch people cut up alive or complain about public websites.

The terms deep web and dark web are often confused, as seen in the OP, and sometimes used interchangeably by noobs - like the noobs who made the "tutorial" in the link provided by the OP.

The graphic is also misleading.

Edit:: From personal experience on the "dark web" or whatever you want to call it, there's a few interesting things but most of it is just general illegal shit and techies whining about conspiracy and the world. The illegal shit is drug deals in bulk, arms deals in bulk, or private information in bulk (not really worth it unless you can read russian and need an illegal passport). Sure there are some info leaks here or there, porn of both illegal and legal types - just gross or weird if legal - though I saw a .onion site with "missionary for the sole purpose of procreation porn" which was hilarious and satirical (every comment called the people disgusting sexual deviants xD).

Not worth the effort, and boring unless you've been sheltered your whole life. Anyone mildly jaded to the likes of special /b/ spongebob porn wouldn't find it remotely as interesting as normal folk do.

Yes. This.

Interesting. Yes, I was a little confused about the difference between the deep web and the dark web. Thanks for clearing that up.

Not sure how long before this thread derails into something that will get it removed, but for now - Do Not post links to illicit sites (as if it need to be said) - thanks.

Broken links, overpriced drugs, "illicit sites " that will get you v8 and slow loading times.

I'm surprised that there are "Youtubers" with 6 digit views where they just browse random sites. Like as if LPing games wasn't that bad, now you watch others surf the web? Damn.

You can watch youtubers surf the web? that sounds fucking terrible...

The Deep/Dark Web

Well, it's not just them surfing the web. It's more like internet horror stories, that are actually pretty interesting (unless you don't want your faith in humanity to be uprooted, torn to shreds, and then thrown into a sewer)

That pretty much happened when they re-elected Obama, so...

I still wanted McCain to win and then die in office just to see the lulz President Palin would bring.

Just heard about the deep web about a month ago from a friend. He told me about some fucked up stories about it.

There's nothing illegal about the deep web. You don't need a custom computer to access it. Just use TOR and go to various sites. There are even search engines for it.

Just because illegal, horrid stuff takes place on the deep web does not make it some haven for criminals. It is simply not spidered by Google.

Personally, I don't find it very interesting, because there is plenty of info on the regular web. Security experts regularly use it for zero-day exploits and responses, much like the internet of old, when only the military and research scientists used it.
