I suppose I could put this in Writing Workshop, but more people will see it here and it's not really important enough to be in the news section.
Anyway, we have the following new tags:
Grimdark, Edgelord, Anti-Hero, Villain Protagonist and Female Protagonist.
The last three are pretty self explanatory, but some might wonder what's the difference between Grimdark and Edgelord. Well personally, I feel "Grimdark" has a lot more substance to it. You have a shitty crapsack world/universe but it's fleshed out fairly well.
Edgelord on the other hand is purely focusing on the more "offensive" parts of what you might occasionally see happen in a Grimdark world. Though the two don't necessary always overlap. Generally speaking I tend to think more stuff in the horror category can fall under this a bit more easily due to the whole chopping folks up, raping the pieces and eating them activities.
I also added the Edgelord tag as a replacement for the "Geared for Extremists" tag which I always thought sounded silly and has been deleted. Maybe we'll use that one again if we get ISIS members or real Nazis (Not the fake ones we usually get here) writing and submitting stories.
Wouldn't it make more sense to improve our search engine before we try to add more tags to it?

Because it could make finding certain stories easier? If someone wanted to play as a villain protagonist and tried to search that in our search engine, they wouldn't find anything. They'd only know by first checking the story and the tags manually or by asking the members which many won't do. Necromancer is a good story. If it weren't featured, how would someone find it without asking a member for a recommendation (since Necromancer almost always gets recommended to newcomers that ask)?
It's stupid to suggest that we have a system to search these tags instead of solely adding the tags with no searching system? Sound logic.

Trying this with Necromancer - arguably the most popular story on the site - I'll try searching "war." Nope, can't find it. Fantasy? Nope. Serious? No. Okay, how about "magic"? Hell, most of the results I'm getting aren't aren't even tagged with these things. So do you not use the search yourself and therefore not know how poor it is or did you just feel like chiming in like a dumb asshole?
Are you searching the tags? Because it never shows up when I look for it. What do you type in when you look for it (aside from the title itself)?
I myself understand where you're coming from, but it's pointless to try to argue on this. They've made it clear that it isn't worth the effort to them so it's a done deal mate.

I'm inconsistently active on the forums so I must have missed the extension being made. It should have been clear that I didn't know what the extension was given that it does exactly what I was suggesting.

I know JJJ made it specifically for stories like Love SICK and such. There was another tag name made up at first which I can't remember what it was called except that I thought it sounded better. However, JJJ went with the geared for extremists one.

If that's the case, I'm sure there should instead be something easier to explain than Geared for Extremists, since its logical antithesis, Geared for Children, seemed to imply that it was more of an age or content thing, considering the community took it to mean it was intended for the junior set rather than being low-maturity simply for the lack of offensive things in it. If it was sheerly due to the length and complexity of a storygame, there could be a "Geared for Grognards" tag or somesuch thing for games that have hard mechanics and getting through them generally isn't a casual task.

Geared for masochists sounds harsh, and considering people who like that kind of experience might not see it that way (And considering that people use tags primarily to "advertise" the content of their game) it doesn't seem like it would be that good of a moniker for people outside the edgelord camp. I would consider something semi-RPG-like and full of death like the House of Danger book End was playing to be Grognard Games, as well as anything else that would play out like an old-fashioned adventure game in text form. MCIGOAKT and Berka's games are also unironically enjoyable, and they're full of the typical grognard things where it has puzzles, mechanics, and it's not just a choice-by-choice format and actually fairly difficult to find the best endings. A tag should ideally be able to have awesome storygames as well as not-so-good-ones and still fit. That's how you know it has a good range. Masochists only bring the negative aspects to mind.
