I was wrapping up a fairly long page in the game I'm working on right now, and after finishing the page I went to hit the close and save changes button. However, instead of saving and closing, it took me to page that read something along the lines of "You tried to go to a page that doesn't exist." I went back to the storygame editor and all of my progress on the page was gone. I get that it's not a huge issue and that it's easily solvable by just writing the page in a different program, but it was annoying nonetheless.

That's a common issue here.  Most peeps will write in Word or whatever and paste it into the editor when done.  

I am pretty sure that is all that you can do.

If you spend too much time with a window open it can time out, which results in that.

It's not really something we can "fix" on our side, since it's mostly an expected function.
