I tried to italicize one line of a storygame desc with one "< i >" command before the line...

ex. < i >Line one.

...and now the entire page and all the text is italicized on the page when i open the storygame, including the side tabs (home, storygames, forums, etc.) and the elements of the game (rating, length, etc.)

i've already tried closing the command with another "< i >" at the end of the line, but nothing changes.

any thoughts? ps. i spaced out the brackets from the i in the command to show them here, i didn't use any spaces when actually trying to use the command in the desc.

A closing tag needs a forward slash. You just put in two italics tags. It should be like < i >your text< /i >.

You could try learning some HTML while you're at it. It can be useful to know. There's an article on this site that covers the most commonly used tags but you could also check out online tutorials if you are more interested.
