It occurs to me why there is no '8' for Maturity Rating on the site (the highest it goes is 7) and it makes sense.

As outlined in the Terms of Service, this is an 'all ages' friendly site and pornography is expressly prohibited. A Maturity Rating 7 is equated to a Rated R movie, so by extension, an 8 would be X-Rated.

There is no Maturity Level 8, because this is not a totally free-for-all writing site. There is a line of what is appropriate and what is not.

You could (like an R-Rated Movie) describe a sex scene, but you would ‘show’ boobs and sensual motion and all the loud caterwauling of ecstasy that goes with it, but not aroused male body parts, penetration, or bodily fluids flying across the ‘screen’. Those type of things belong in an X-Rated Movie/Story and there are other (more appropriate) web sites for that sort of thing than here on ChooseYourStory.com.

With all the talk of Pedo/Incest/Rape based stories happening in the forums right now, I just wanted to point this out. You could write a story about such a thing, but you would have to be careful about your level of graphic detail.

As for using EndMaster’s games as a guideline of what you can and can ‘get away with,’ I think some of his games cross the line in a page or two, but not throughout the entire stories and those short snippets are not the focus of the entire story and are written well enough to convey the situations without being something straight out of ‘Letters to Penthouse’.

So anyway, there you have it. Mods are free to confirm or deny the correlation/causality of the Maturity Rating 7 and lack of an 8…

^I agree with this. I always though that since a 7-rated story stated is would be considered a rated-R then we don't really need to put it any higher.

Hey, I think there could be a real niche for choose your own adventure porn, and that we should accommodate this.

CHYOO2 already has that niche covered. That's pretty much all they do over there.

From my understanding the 8 rating was something that was on the list of things to be implemented when Alex popped up from a long absence and was updating the site quite a bit, but just never got around to it.

I'm not sure if I'm willing to read another 50 Shades of Gray, much less CYS version.

I guess that all makes sense. It's just rather unfortunate that there has to be limits on how far we can go with certain things.

I don't have any plans for anything extremely graphic as of yet, but I know that there are going to be branches that lead to events that could possibly push the rating. Fortunately for me though, I'm not that great at writing out sex scenes, so I won't really have to worry about crossing the line in it.

I'm sure I will have a few graphically violent scenes, but I know I've seen some pretty gruesome stuff in R rated movies. So there's no issues there either.

I can't say that I think the "family friendly" rating scale is necessarily a bad thing, unless your whole concept depends on being able to write out all of the explicit material to its full graphic nature. But I guess that's why if you really need to write that way you should try to find one of the other sites with no limits.

This is something I wondered about I logged on and read love SICK. I have noticed a distinct lacking of mature ratings technically even a bit o cussing and rather offensive languages get a 6 or 7 but honestly a 8 would be an over the top like specific descriptions of this stuff 7 is descriptions right?
