What are they really, and what purpose do they serve if the story search thing doesn't really work? Do they ever come into play mechanically, or are they just for the player to read when they're casually browsing the storygames for something to read that fits their interests?

I think that the tags are kind of like subcategories of sorts, they tighten the subject of a storygame.

To what extent? They don't dictate what genre it ends up in or anything. In fact as far as I know, they don't really do much except vaguely describe what vibe the story gives off to the reader who hasn't read it yet. All I truly know is that I want my story to fit into as many as possible.

My guess would be that they were setup to be used as a search feature, but perhaps that feature was never implemented. In the meantime, they can be used to provide more information about the story for readers who check out the first page and read that page before they actually read the story.

At the moment, they serve as a little bit more information about the story before you start reading it. If I remember correctly, when the new version of the site is finally completed (in a far, dark future), the tags will replace the existing categories. 

Currently, I think they are used so you can see if there's something specifac that you want in a game while just browsing through.

Of course, with the current setting, it gets annoying to click the game, look at the tag, and then find that there's not the tag that you want.

Which is probably why there is this! Click render 2 - click 'Play' - take a look at what's there. :) Tags are quite useful there for just browsing through.

I think I'm in love with Render 2.

It's not finished yet. There's still a lot of bugs and stuff on it, but that's the new look for the site once it's done.

Eh... I'll probably miss the beige and dark orange/brown feel.

Me too. It's simple.

I like it. it's cozy and inviting. Sure Render 2 is fancy and all, but it's not the same as this.
