A place to sit back, hang out, and make monkey noises about anything you'd like.

Natural disasters

I want to post this before the power goes out again so here it is.

Last night at midnight, i woke up unexpectedly, and five minutes after i woke up, the whole house began to shake. Now i am not normally scared when there are earthquakes, i just sleep through them most of the time, but this one was huge. Lights started flickering, my bed began sliding across the floor, pictures fell off of the wall, my bookshelf toppled over, and the mirror broke. I was terrified. My mum came through as this was happening, and she couldn't even stand, the floor was shaking so much. This kept going for about ten minutes. When it stopped and we tried turning on the lights, all power was gone, and we were stuck with candles. Eventually after we called a few of our friends to check on them, we went back to bed. Eight hours later there are still more aftershocks, some nearly as strong as the first quake.

I finally got on Facebook this morning when the wi-fi was working again, i saw that there had actually been a Tsunami warning that we missed and multiple fatalities. Not only that but there have been earthquakes just as strong all over the country.

Long story short, i'm not going to school today, and i'm hoping exams have been postponed.

So i was wondering, what kind of natural disasters have the rest of you been a part of? I mean i would call this a 'disaster' but it was still scary. Have any of you been around when a tornado struck or a tsunami hit? And if not, do you guys have any advice on how to deal with these earthquakes right now, cause i am literally typing this during the middle of an aftershock.

Help me. o_o

Just tornado's and earth quakes. Lived in tornado valley and one touched down right in my neighbors backyard and it went over our house while it was still somewhat weak. Only minor damages but I recall having to go into a closet in the basement in order to be safe and we kept water and canned stuff down there with me and my whole family.

Other times I lived in Nevada and visited California often so there were plenty of earthquakes. Only a few were 5 - 6. Nothing huge so nothing happened. Pretty good shake though, really stirred us up.

Earthquakes. There was a big one on 2007 that destroyed part of a city, and lately we've had several small ones, like 4-6 in just two weeks.

One time when I was 7 I was staying at my grandpas house for 2 weeks and since he lives in a trailer park in the middle of nowhere when a tornado hit the power was out for an entire week.

Meh, I've been through deadly thunderstorms, massive (somewhat historic for my area) flooding on multiple occasions, a bit of Superstorm Sandy, a couple tropical depressions and tropical storms, a few minor earthquakes, several tornados warnings (one of which touched down quite close), a few blizzards, and a rather harsh ice storm. I've never actually been afraid of any of them, for the probability of dying in a natural disaster is quite low. It is significantly more horrifying to drive through Miami or East St. Louis. :)

Nonetheless, I don't blame you. It's very unsettling to have Terra Firma no longer be so firm.
