Heroes Guard: Race Selection

Feel free to be harsh, I can take it! smiley

Choosing a race or even your characteristics / stats in Heroes Guard is a bit different than most game/books. Many times the choices presented to you is a bit elusive as to the outcome - but hopefully make sense when you see what happens next. In this case I have an example of selecting the race in heroes guard:

A historian once described my race as...

  1. small, stout, and covetous
  2. cunning, resourceful, and intrusive
  3. quarrelsome, but unrelenting strength and speed

#1 Chosen

They left out all the other good stuff about a Dwarf: innovator, architect, engineer - basically the best craftsmen in all of Argoria! Yes we like gold and shiny things, who doesn't? Any weapon or armor in the hands of a dwarf is twice as good as anyone else - why? Because its built better, stronger, sharper.

#2 Chosen

Humans are only involved in everyone's affairs because we tend to be the only race that can keep a level-head when dealing with turmoil. Of course those resolution often tend to be in our best interest. What we lack in raw strength and speed, we make up for in courage and tenacity.

#3 Chosen

Orcs are not quarrelsome, we simply have honor and dignity - the other races should perhaps find theirs! 'Unrelenting' is a pretty good description of what some call 'berzerking'. Much as most races get stronger and faster with adrenaline, our adrenaline is simply more effective - granting great speed, strength, and endurance.

Would be nice once in a while to also show some more differences in a diplomatic manner.  Unless you're mainly focusing on combat, perhaps your own interpretation of Orcish, human, and Dwarvish culture could affect character interactions (unless you find that difficult to implement; I won't lie, it is harder to script out that kind of interaction, let alone make it seem plausible and more story-like than a bare-bones game.)

Some story arcs will deal with racism, but it won't always be a factor - as like you said it can be incredible difficult to implement that for all 6 planned races for all the story-based content.

Thanks for the feedback!
