Developing the story through different choices.

So, i'm making a new story game that has quite a bit of length to it. I was thinking of exactly how to go about it, since iv'e had the idea of making 6 endings that are good, and thats it.

The game basically follows [you], who can really be anyone, as its told in the first person. You're one who never leaves the house until you realize after a week that a huge plague has taken over your city, and you can really decide how you want it to go from there. You're going to have a bandit path (basically 75% done) a police path, and a loner path.

My idea though, was, how can I make each story interesting? I thought of a few ways. While each story tells you the basics of what the plague does, and how it changes you, each one of the paths will explore it in a different way. Like in one bad end on the bandit path, you firsthand experience what its like to get infected and what it does to your mind, while in a police path you find a lab where the plague is being produced and learn of its creators, and in the single person path, you have to face down with some of the worst infected, how to save your city, and why it exists even in the first place. Do you guys think this is a good idea, so that you have a reason to do each branch and learn more of the story as you go?

That sounds like a good idea, it's always good to have a reason to revisit a story-game and do the other branches, especially if you get to learn more about characters or events mentioned by other characters that interest you. Seeing things from different angles is really good, that's why those LOTR computer games where you can play as either a human, an orc or whatever are so appealing, it's like getting the other side of the story. I'm looking forward to reading this one :)

Many people here enjoy re-playing stories when there is a good reason to do so. What you have described does indeed sound like a good idea.

So far so good! Iv'e got about fourty pages with the bandit path so far. Its got a lot of content, and a few split ends that usually lead to death, but, its fun. A lot of hinting at other sides of the story is given, and so far those iv'e shown it are enjoying it. Hopefully i'll be done with this section by the end of the week!
